      Sad news for HP. I suppose as the community ages, so will the members. Like any community there will be life cycle events of births, graduations, marriages, sickness and death. "Better to have loved and lost"

            There is always a worry because he loves food that is bad for him and his wife will indulge him sometimes. It would be helpful if his wife wouldn't cook such meals and eat them around him while eats proper food. But she sees no reason to change her diet for him.

               How sad it is to have a kind of lack of consideration and not be able to share in healthier eating with a beloved spouse. It is difficult for him, probably. I hope she too does not become ill.

                  A similar thing happened with my brother and his recovery as an alcoholic. He is indeed in recovery, but when he and the mother of his children finally got married, there was an open bar. Her family insisted. Why should they be denied alcohol because of someone else's problem? I drank water, even during the toasting. sigh.

      I used to work for a diabetes consultant as a secretary and writing my letters I realized it  is quite a serious illness.  I don't think people are aware of its complications, one of those being to pass away.  I never met Cris, but have since read his profile and hubs.  Its so sad.  He will be missed in this community.

   I am so sad to hear of this loss! Chris welcomed me warmly a month ago. My father passed away of diabetes in Aug. My heart goes out to his family and all his friends.

         Hey! Kabayan! I hope we got this HP for good. I like it here with you guys. I want to say something about this. One thing I can remember about Cris A is cindyvine. She commented a lot of good things about him. He will be missed.

      I DID NOT REALISE HE WAS ONLY 33.  THAT HAS SHOCKED ME SO MUCH.   So much talent - such a nice guy - what a waste.  He should be alive.

   I am more saddened because Cris's friend said he took very good care of his diabetes and did everything right. I had a friend who died of the disease at the same age as Cris, but he didn't take care of himself.

      I second Teresa McGurk's statement.  So sorry to hear that Cris was afflicted with diabetes and lost the battle.  33 years is definitely a short time.  He will be missed.

   As a diabetic myself, I am saddened to hear of the death of someone who was taking good care of himself and the disease. At 33 it is likely that he had Type 1 diabetes. The real problem with this type is that it is a two-way problem - we think of diabetes along with too much sugar = hyperglycaemia - that is one problem, the second one is = hypoglycaemia (too little). One can enter coma in both cases, mine fortunately was from the former, which is a slow process. With hypoglycaemia you can go into a coma and die very quickly, and if no-one is around when a hypo occurs, there is nothing the sufferer can do - and death ensues.
   
   I have known several people who have died of a hypo. I know many that have had amputations due to hyper's. I was a lucky one that came out the other side of a hyperglycaemic coma.
   
   I am sorry to hear of another life cut short by something that is believed to be able to be cured once the science of genetics shows the way.
