Writing Hubpages Exercises EVERYONE Can Participate In

   I've seen it mentioned that some are enjoying the contest because it's a fun challenge to be given a topic and have to create unique articles around it. I agree with this. I am not in it to win, I am in it because it's fun to write around a specific topic someone else chose.
   
   At another writing site I used to particpate at years ago, there was a very similar community dynamic like there is here in the first few years of the site. One thing that was big in the community  was writers hosting "Write-Offs". A Write Off was very similar to the contest. You are given a keyword, topic, object, etc. Then you have to write a article around that.
   
   Anyone who wanted to could join in and post something that went with that Write-Off's topic. Writers had usually a few days to work on their Write Off Submission before submitting. Anyone could host a Write Off and there could be more then one at a time going on.
   
   Would anyone be interested in participating in something similar. A Write off can be started in a message board post, ANYONE can reply that they wanted to join, and then the host can include the links to all submissions in the post at the end of the WriteOff.  Only write off submissions included were the ones from people requesting to join in the message post. This keeps it easy for the host to find the submissions and not have to guess who participated.
   
   Host's can choose any topic and can specify rules such as include at least 3 pictures, write at least 600 words, etc. 
   
   Is anyone interested in this idea? If so should we wait until the contest is over, or does anyone want to get started now? Anyone have any ideas that would make this better?

   Great idea, Stephanie. This has a lot in common with another contest we will launch in April called "Pass the Baton"... stay tuned towards the end of March, after HubLove ends.

   Sunstreeks,that sounds interesting.
   
   I want to make sure I understand. On a forum post, one would basically say, I want to do a write-off, the topic is the alphabet and you have to have 500 words, 2 pictures, and 1 video. You have 5 days.
   
   People would write about the alphabet and post links on the thread?
   
   Is that about right?
   
   Hubpages: another contest... 'Pass the Baton' sounds interesting. Can't wait to hear about it.

   A no pressure group writing excerise.
   
   We reply to the post that we would like to join the write off so that the host knows to watch for their hub. Then at the end of the 3 days, or 5 days, the host posts all hubs into one post so that we can easily go through and read everyones submissions.
   
   some points that might make this work better:
   
   Anyone can join at anytime before the Write Off ends just by posting in the original post that they want to be included.  All entries are included. Because we can't edit posts, any have any suggestions to make sure all hubs are found and included?
   
   You include just one hub into each write off you participate in. Keeps it fun and not a competion
   
   The broader the keyword, topic, subject the better for more diversity of hubs.
   
   It's not a contest, hubbers would write for the fun of putting together an original and enjoyable hub using the Host's chosen word, phrase, etc.
   
   Setting word minimums, pictures, videos, links, would be the host's descretion. Setting them increases the challenge for the hubber but too many rules might make it less fun.
   
   Alphabet would be fun, some other examples: holiday dishes, frugal ideas, role playing games, hot toys, gardening, etc.
   
   
   These are just some of my ideas on doing something like this not trying to set any rules in stone. Anyone else got any ideas on ways this could be made more fun? Or does anyone want to volunteer to host the first one?
   
   
   Write-Off was termed by the members at Epinions.com. I have addressed this idea as a write-off just to give it a name.  Anyone got a great idea for something to call these writing exercise just for Hubpages?
