IMPLEMENTED: appropriate message for banned profiles

   When someone gets banned from HubPages and you go view that profile it reads
   
   
   And then below that it then reads
   
   
   Whereas that message is appropriate for people who have just joined the site, it doesn't seem right at all to be encouraging other users to follow and send fan mail to someone who has now been permanently banned from the site, don't you think?  I feel it would be a more productive option to invite visitors to go to some other part of the site and participate or interact with present and active members instead.

      Um, not sure I understand as above and below your "and then below that it reads" is all blank for me? Can you give me the link to the profile in question so that I can see what you and Aficionada seem to be able to see?

   The "welcome" message was present before the banning took place. (I'm assuming we saw the same profile, which I saw in another thread where you commented.)
   
   The staff definitely needs to find a way to disable that message immediately when a Hubber is banned.  I wonder whether that message is actually helpful in welcoming new Hubbers anyway.  Would it just stay there until the Hubber writes some Hubs?  That could be a very long time....

   What we're talking about is something you see on the profiles for banned users who switched over to the new layout.  Once that changeover becomes site-wide, versus the present opt-in period, there's going to be thousands of profiles that look like this.

   That same message looks just as inappropriate for users who have chosen to take down all their Hubs but who have chosen to leave their accounts open, but I'm not sure how you'd teach the system to recognize that.  But encouraging people to follow or leave fan mail for those folks seems just as awkward and inappropriate.

      I agree.  Encourage 'so-and-so' to get working on some hubs, but they have been banned, so they can't.  It doesn't make much sense.

   Good catch, Relache. Looks like this is a bug. Banned user profile should only display that the user has been banned. No welcome message, no followers, no following, no recent images, no accolades, etc.

   I guess that's part of the benefit of having a voluntary switch-over period ahead of a site-wide rollout, as it works like a slightly larger beta test.

      Can I ask why, if the person is banned from Hubpages, they continue to have a profile picture, hubbercore and profile page? It's not like they will be returning to the same account. Doesn't it serve to clog the system?

   I also do not care to read, "Why was so-and-so banned?"  Who cares?  I mean, if the person is permanently banned, why even bother asking?  But I've seen a few threads like that.  Then the OP goes into attack mode towards HubPages.  It's all a waste of time.  Either the person is not there to defend himself.  Or he has already taken on a new identity.

      I'm guessing that it's not the same as "user not found" because the banned names are locked in the system so they can't be used again, and a not-found user just doesn't exist, and so could be created.
      
      I find the repeating of the banned message as the solution to the problem obviously inelegant, and would have opted for something more productive for the open page real estate.

   I do realize the difference, but it is not very "nice" to be taking some past users brand name or real name and attaching such a message to it for posterity.
   
   Such a page should be treated like a  proper 404 and designed to push the viewer elsewhere on the site. As it is now, it is a dead end.
