   A newly-discovered asteroid could be on a collision course with Earth, according to scientists.
   
    
   Dr John Gribben on BBC Radio 4's Today programme (2'48")
   The mile-wide object has the potential to create worldwide devastation if it hits the planet during its closest approach in October 2028.
   
   Concerned scientists are tracking the rock, known as 1997 XF11, to project its course.
   
   The Visiting Fellow of Astronomy at Sussex University, England, Dr John Gribben, said: "There is about a one in 1,000 chance that it will hit the Earth. Those are very short odds.
   
   "It is big enough to cause immense devastation. You are not talking about wiping out a city, you are talking about wiping out a continent."
   
   Asteroid specialist Jack Hills says the speeding space rock poses a real danger to Earth.

   Why should we worry aboutit? If it happens there is nothing we can do. We will just wait and see.
   
   We could all die in 2012---the projected doomsday end of the world.
   
   I have discovering that worrying about things that are out of my control is not healthy. Besides, you could die in a car accident, or be struck by lightning. Just live for the moment and don't take ANY day for granted.

   Sony Pictures has been cranking up their End-of-the-World machine for several months now in order to promote their movie 2012. 
   As far as 1997 XF11 goes the web site for Near Earth Objects has the revised prediction that shows it passing a little less that 600,000 miles from the Earth in 2028.  I think we're good with that one.

   It seems we have more to worry about from this giant 'brown star' that is suppose to bring the world to an end on December 21, 2012. After all, if the world ends in 2012, then it won't matter what happens in 2028.
   
   But enough sarcasm.  I am not worried about either one.

    well for one thing i just realized i said plant not planet.  oooops!  an end of the world party sounds great to me.  I'll bring the tequila, salt and limes.  Any maybe some popcorn balls, cause, i just ain't had any in such a long time and this could be my last chance.
