Creative Writing in the hub?

   I'm wondering if creative writing - poetry and personal narratives - is appropriate content for a hub?

      It's not typically the kind of content that sees 'success' in the form of prolonged traffic and earnings, but we have a vibrant and talented creative writing community and many Hubbers just enjoy the exchange and community feedback!
      
      That said, personal narratives outside the creative writing realm don't really have a place on HubPages. They may actually be moderated as "purely personal" content, so I'd leave it be.

      I have only posted two hubs; both personal. Why? Because that's where my mind led me. I write great articles, too, but my thinker is just not cooperating. They aren't doing poorly, but they could be doing better. Trying to force myself into article inspiration- it's not working out for me very well.

   If your intent is to make money on HP, you should forget about creative writing. In the other hand if you want to get feedback and polish your skills, posting your poetry or short story, etc. could be fun

      I agree, Petra. I do enjoy the poetry, personal and creative fiction pieces.On the other hand, I am not an agent, publisher or editor, so I cannot help those writers  who are seeking publication.  The same is true for most people who participate here.
      Such pieces might attract the attention of someone  else ... but Hubpages, is more about earning through  articles that attract customers to their ads.
      Both kinds of writing make this a great place to publish. There can be some monetary rewards, but the feedback is "priceless" for all contributions.

   I believe creative writing is encouraged for hubbers, in the rating system there is even a check box to rate a hub as creative writing.

   Of course it is "appropriate" and there is much fiction and poetry. Perhaps you will not make pennies off of it, as do the "how to" articles that proliferate here, but it is read and appreciated too.

      ....however, there are several sites which exist specifically to allow writers to give and receive feedback on creative writing and poetry, so you're likely to get more meaningful critiques on those sites, which are designed for that purpose.

   I'm in the same boat as you are, and the admin who posted was very correct
   We won't get a lot of constant traffic, but if you go looking for it there are a lot of people who are willing to critique your work.
   So go out there and post if you want, you won't be making much money, but your writing will definitly grow

   Suite101 is going through a transitional period after which they plan to focus on creative writing--poetry, short stories, etc. This has nothing to do with HubPages, I just thought I'd throw it out there FYI.

   In technical terms, yes. The HubPages teams have included an option in the new hub hopper which allow users to grade hubs specifically as creative works. I take this as an endorsement from them to go ahead with creative writing. In any case, there has been a creative writing community on the site for as long as I can remember.
   
   Now, in reality, it can be a challenge. HubPages may allow it wholeheartedly, but creative writing has historically had trouble getting regular traffic here. The reason is that nobody is searching for creative work and HubPages is not universally recognized as a (no pun intended) hub for creative writers. That being said, I am aware of some who do succeed here with their creative writing. The trick is to develop a strong following within the site itself as search engines will not be kind to your work.
   
   I have written a hub that goes into more detail about the common traps that creative writers here often fall into. In short, there are unique challenges associated with it, but they can all be overcome with time, effort, and good sense.

    what is the average amount of money a person makes  in hubpages from their work? is this a nickel and dime  thing ? or are there really people  making a living here?if so how many?

       You will not get any definitive answers; it is an open invitation to thieves.
       
       I doubt you will find more than a bare handful making a living, if that, but there are quite a few making a few hundred per month.

       There are people here making zero per month and people making $1,000+ per month.  The potential is here, but most people are probably not very successful.

    I've seen plenty of people publishing poetry hubs and (even short stories). I've published poetry hubs as well. That is of course allowed. If you are here to not just share your writing but also make money the issue becomes then whether poetry hubs will make you good money... I don't think they will make you a lot (from my own experience) but you will earn for sure with the HubPages Ad Program as that's based on ad impressions. As long as you get traffic to the poetry hubs you will earn something.

    Hubs on personal experience or memoirs do well ...
    As long as it's from the heart, folks remember that and keep coming back ... be creative as much as you like, just make sure to follow the content rules as well
