I have recently finished a couple of hubs that I started earlier (apparently one was from 2012 and one from 2013). I used HubPages automatic copyright date on them, and the old dates appear on them even though they have never been published. Is there anyway to have the copyright date reflect the date they were actually published?
You had a hub from 2012 which wasn't published? lol....just messing with you there...lol
Yeah, it took that long to go through the QAP. Maybe the m-turker was on vacation.
No, I like to reserve titles and remind myself of my brilliant ideas for the next time I need an idea in a hurry.
I usually do that but delete than after a while. I'll keep them next time. I have five now waiting to be written...lol. I hope they update the copyright.
I have deleted some hubs with just titles when I forgot the inspiration behind it or if it was no longer relevant. Some ideas were apparently good enough to keep since I did manage to write hubs to go with them this week.
I do the same thing and have noticed that the copyright date reflects when I first started the hub. I like to "reserve" titles and plug in roughed-out ideas, using the unpublished hub as my work space.
Does anyone know if there's any impact in having a copyright date from last year when you just now got around to writing and publishing the hub? Is it just aesthetic and a minor detail?
There appears to have been an issue with the logic used for the date used.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have changed how it works and just deployed a fix earlier today. The copyright date will now be the year in which the Hub was first published.
Thank you, Matt, for your responsiveness!
The copyright year is now showing as my year of birth on a hub that I just created today but haven't published.
The default (un-populated) date value is 1969.
When the Hub has actually been published, the correct date should show.
If you publish a Hub and the published Hub is showing a copyright year that is not the year in which the Hub was first published, please share the title of the specific Hub and we will look into it further.
Um ... That's a strange default lol Okay, thank you for letting us know, Matthew!
It is strange. I think the default date should be something that doesn't look like a mistake, like 0000 or better yet 2014.
Be assured that readers do not see it.
It comes down to how an empty date is displayed.
I have forwarded a feature suggestion to our engineering team to see if we can handle the non-existent first publish date for these Hubs in a bit better way so as to limit confusion.
Thanks for taking time to let us know!
We just deployed an update. The current year will display as for the copyright notice before the Hub has been published (rather than 1969).
I checked one of my never published Hubs and confirmed.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
You should stick with the old copyright date. The older your copyright date, the better your work is protected. What if someone got a whiff of any portion or all of your material in between the time you started and finished it? Even if they didn't it shows when the material was first started...
Matthew: Now, mine all read 1969!!! Apparently, I started these before my parents even met! LOL
Please see above.

That's strange. I looked at several of my hubs, trying different start and publish date combinations, and they look fine to me. Maybe you can tell us specifically the dates?
For example, I have an unfinished hub I started in 2012. On my Hub Stats page, under the category "changed" it says: 06/11/12. But, when I go into the hub to edit and turn on the copyright notice, it says © 1969 I Am Rosa ... I checked several of my WIP hubs and they all have 1969 as the copyright date.
I would check it again, as that happened to me for the first time today. It is corrected now. Is it still happening for you?
All my unpublished ones still read 1969 :-/
That is too strange, I bet mine do as well then. I waited until last evening, and it showed the current year. Hmmmm All I can suggest is to keep checking it, until its sorted out? There has been glitches in some of the forum threads as well, like they won't show posts for a few days, then it all catches up. Maybe with the contest going on, there is a lot more activity or something that is causing problems? I don't know.
I wonder if it comes up with a bogus date until the hub is published. The ones I checked were all published ones.
I have experienced it myself, where I publish a hub at a certain time, but if I click the copyright option, it gives the original created year for the date. It is no problem with me, until today. I kid you not, the date said 1969. This is some kind of serious glitch or something! I refreshed it, came back later, etc. It is still @1969 Oceansnsunsets (pretending the @ is the copyright symbol there.) Too strange! Has anyone else had this happen?
Edit: Ok, you knew that when I would go back to check, it is going to be ok, right? Sure enough, it is now showing 2014, which I am very thankful for. So it is not the older date, OR the super old date either. Thankful, its all good now.
I entered a second text linking to my profile with the correct year. Now it shows two copyright years but the 1969 does not list the Author.

Do you include a copyright notice in your articles? Why or why not?I never do this, but I see that a lot of folks on here do. Just wondering what the opinions are out there.

My best hub for traffic has had near a 50% daily drop in views since the new layout went into effect. It is not at the most relevant time, but traffic had been rising. The date is obviously hurting this hub as people now believe this to be an old out dated hub for 2012, when the hub is all about...

I have only ever had one featured hub before but when I checked my account today I was shocked to find I have 13 in featured hubs due to low engagement. This is proof that traffic has fallen greatly. It's not just my lowest scoring hubs either..it is right across the board. Is anyone else...

When I update or revise older hubs, the HP standardized copyright notice does not change to the current year, so I remove that notice to update with my own current year notice at the bottom of my hub, using the correct format. Then I get the notice that HP prefers their own notice, which is...
