How 'bout we try this again...

Most of us know by now that recently a thread was started that cast three nameless women in a derogatory light. We also know that although they were not named (which allowed the OP to skate under any possibility of receiving a ban) they were insinuated in different ways. It started, I believe purposefully, as a snowball on a mountain top, and kept rolling. Each new poster angrier than the one before until not a kind word could be found.

I personally, (and others have expressed the same view) appreciate the help these women offer. I have never seen one of them offer cotton candy advise, or a fluffy joke to end their post with, but needless to say, they have offered hundreds of valuable insights that have helped as many posters and did it as a service. They obviously were not paid for their time and the "witch-hunt" thread was the thanks they got.

I did not start this to debate ANYTHING! So help me if anyone writes a single disparaging remark, I will start a new thread everyday having to do with the love lives of Brittney Spears, Kim Kardashian and that Beiber kid... so PLEASE do not use this thread to make any more negative comments. You can use the witch-hunt thread for that and hopefully at some point, they will close that sucker down.

So why did I start this thread with the disgustingly long intro? To ask you, if you made any negative comments on the other thread and now regret them... or if you simply have been helped by any of the ladies who may be feeling a bit bashed over the head right now... to offer a kind word. I don't care if it's "I like your hat." Just offer a kind word of support. There are human beings behind these posts, we all have said things in the past we regret. I usually regret at least 5 posts a day... but we are all people who need to be loved and appreciated... please... say something nice/supportive.

    Thanks

Weird, I get a "This Forum Thread is Inactive" warning when responding even though the thread is only 15 min old.  I never noticed the other thread, and from what you've conveyed I am choosing not to catch up.  I just want to say I like your hat.

As you know, I already did my part and I will forever be thankful to Relache, Marisa, Writer Fox and others. I don't know who the thread was about but I too took part in it, regrettably. I feel that the OP meant well but it escalated into something nasty and I hate nastiness of any kind.

It was amazing how the very thing we were complaining about, was what a lot of us were guilty of doing...truly amazing.

I just want to tell the people who have been of assistance to me here on Hubpages, a VERY BIG THANK YOU. And, I'm truly sorry for the disrespect you have had to face.

I am new to Hub Pages so I did not know, nor did I or would I participate in anything that would be construed as derogatory.  There's so much negativity out there.  I would hope that on Hub Pages we could help each other, encourage each other and lift each other up.  If there are people who can't, then my suggestion is to follow their grandmothers'  advice...I know you heard it...If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I mean, what is there left to say? You hit the nail on the head. We gotta just leave room for ppl to be themselves. Gather round the folks we enjoy, put space between us and the ppl we don't, but be kind to everyone. Thanks Jill

I am not aware of this situation, but I will say one thing about my fellow HPers.
We are a polite and civilized group of writers. And, we do NOT verbally abuse each other. In fact, what has kept me here on this site is the simple fact that if we (I and my fellow Hubbers) don't like something, we just don't comment, or at times, we just block out that persons works. The most radical thing I do is remove these people from my Follow list.
Other sites have people who take some perverse joy in attacking others, I certainly hope we are not growing a collection of such people.
So, if we have such people, I recommend that they just move on to a site that has some perverse appreciation for rudeness.
    Just my thoughts,
    DON

If I have ever been angry or hateful I apologize for that now.

This said I feel that despite the good intent of the OP, this thread will likely carry on the debate that started it all.

Let's just agree to get along.

Please. I'm begging. No Kardasian and no My Little Pony.

I'm sure there's a clause in the Geneva Convention regarding those.

I never contributed to that car wreck thread. I think those posters whined a lot (sorry if this is too negative) because those people that were criticized so heavily are always willing to help newbies in these forums. They certainly have a lot more patience than I do! Can you imagine that they have been answering the same questions, year in and year out?
Thanks for all of your help!

I really do appreciate the members who "know stuff" and are willing to take their time to help everyone in the HubPages forums. They even write very useful hubs with detailed information for anyone to read. A big THANKS to those nameless ones.

Sed-me, thank you for being valiant. And, I do appreciate your sense of humor.

I'd also add that they have patiently waded through some pretty frantic and rambling posts of mine here before.  Emotional, somewhat blathering, over personal.  People don't wade through that muck and take the time to provide meaningful information if they aren't committed to helping.  That's my take.

Which made me step back and really enjoy the hilarious banter and helpful posts.

  8. RockyMountainMom profile image68

I skipped the thread.  So I might be more specific if I'd read it.

This starts out not sounding like I like someone's hat, but it builds to a more meaningful demonstration of it....bear with me....

I am terribly over sensitive.  And dislike feeling wrong.  So, when I was new here, I responded too quickly a couple of times in forums early on to people I thought were implying I was in some way incorrect.

None were mean, and in all the cases I can remember, they were more right than I though when I read more closely.  And really not insinuating I was wrong if I read closely.

I think there are times and ways people can be and feel slighted on here, so I'm not discounting their feelings.

But for me, reading those posts saved me a lot of time and energy I would have spent trying and worrying about the wrong things.

So I really do like your hats, ladies, and appreciate your help.
