Capsule Spell Check Tool

   I don't know if this is the right forum section for this question, but here goes:
   
   Has anyone else noticed that the spell checker cannot seem to "see" apostrophes, and therefore does not recognize legitimate words that are contractions?
   
   I've, Can't, Won't, Didn't, Haven't ... etc... all routinely get flagged as errors by the spell check tool.  It is annoying.
   
   It's bad enough when I make a typo and have to fix it, but to have contractions being flagged as incorrect is beyond the pale.

      I've noticed this with didn't, but not with other contractions.

      If a contraction (or any valid word) is flagged in the spell checker, you can right click on that word and in the drop down box click on 'Add to dictionary' - then it is accepted.

         I know that option is offered in Word, and I do use it there; I was not aware there was an "add" tool here.  Thanks, Phyllis!

         Thank you, Phyllis! I did not realize that. After reading what you posted, I went through a few of my articles, and "added to dictionary" quite a few words that were underlined in red when I was in the text capsule's "edit" mode.
         
         Such a simple fix, and I was not aware of it!

      To be honest, I didn't know HP offers spell check. I do all my work in  Word before posting. If I get the red (or green) squiggles, I correct them and make the same changes in my Word doc.
      
      Spell check is not the end-all-be-all. It's flag some words, but accept mis-usage of your, its, etc. Don't rely on spell check to make your articles sparkle. It's a help, but knowledge is the best guide.
      
      USA writers should have a handle on the English language first and foremost.
      
      However, I do notice spell check in CMAs flag contractions. I just right click and go with what is recommended (unless it's totally off the wall). I think it's a matter of spacing, nothing more.

         I agree, bravewarrior.
         Spell check is not equal to word check or grammar check.  I proofread my writing carefully, but there are those odd times when the slip of a finger causes a wrong letter.
         I was bringing this up because I know I am using a word correctly, and it is annoying to have it flagged as a spelling error. 
         
         Spell check makes its own mistakes on both sides of the equation.
         I do not depend on it at all, or even use it most of the time.  I even do proofreading for others, and my spelling skills are, (pardon the self-congratulations),  excellent.  (My husband, on the other hand, despite a near genius IQ, can't spell his way out of the proverbial paper bag!  LOL)
         
         That is why, when I see the red underline, I figure that I had a slip of the finger while typing, and then am annoyed to find that it was a mistake in the programming of the utility, for flagging a perfectly correct word!

      I've never seen a spell-checker on Hubpages. Are you confusing with the one in your browser or has Hp introduced it in the hubtool?

   It doesn't work correctly most of the time. I use my word spell check and if the one here picks up something, I double check just to make sure I didn't over look something.
