Paul Ryan stated that Trump's accusation of his Judge's bias due to his Mexican heritage was the very definition of racism, but he still supports the Republican nominee. Why can't he just call Trump a racist? And admit that racism is rampant in the Republican party.

Trump says he has not a racist bone in his body and he is the least racist person he has ever known.

Personally I've never heard more people call Trump Racists than other human. My summary is he a great liar aand a racist and should be fired.

Unfortunately for the GOP, Trump is the face of the Party. There is no conflict between the GOP base and Trump because both are cut from the same swath of cloth.

The conflict is with the corrupt GOP establishment, not the base.  A Trump presidency upsets the corny gravy-train Washington cartel.  Ryan, IMHO, is a globalist establishment who talks out of both sides of his mouth, his actions say it all.  He sure does have pretty big-blue eyes though!

Fiscal responsibility is the direction Trump wants to take the party, and make life more comfortable for every American.

I wouldn't think that racism is rampant in the Republican Party. It's just rampant in the Trump camp.

I do agree though that Trump should be denounced by all decent Republicans. Decent Republicans should boycott the convention if Trump is the nominee.

Seriously? You haven't noticed the lack of diversity in the Republican party?

        1. profile image0
PrettyPantherposted 7 years agoin reply to this

Diversity in the GOP is trending downward, if you look at participation in the Republican convention, which is admittedly only one barometer.  Only 18 of the 2472 delegates are black.

"In 2004, 167 African Americans delegates attended the RNC convention as President George W. Bush was renominated. In 2008, 36 African Americans attended as delegates as Sen. John McCain was nominated to run against then-Sen. Barack Obama, and in 2012 there were 28 African American delegates as Mitt Romney was nominated."

It just keeps getting worse each election cycle.  Not good for the future of the GOP.

You are right that one cannot automatically assume the lack of diversity is due to racism.  However, it does, at the very least, speak to how the party is viewed by minorities.  If they feel included, if they feel GOP policies are helpful to them personally, if they feel welcome, then they become part of the GOP.  If not, they leave.  It seems the party is becoming less diverse, which runs counter to the demographics of the United States as a whole.  Something is definitely going on, don't you think?

Yes, Something is definitely going on. It is unfortunate. But I don't believe racism plays a part in the problems I see within the party.

You don't see the election of Donald Trump as the GOP candidate as a reflection of at least some racism in the Republican base?  It is hard for me not to see it that way.  I have watched the GOP cater to the lowest common denominator for years, while trying to say they aren't.  Now, they get Donald Trump, who says out loud what previous GOP candidates have done more sneakily to appeal to that 25-30%.  You know, that whole "southern strategy" thing.

Donald Trump is running on the Republican ticket. That's all. He is not indicative of 'the party'. I don't know that his base is necessarily registered Republicans. I've heard throughout the primary process that if registered Republicans were the only ones allowed to vote in the primaries that he wouldn't have stood a chance. I read one article which said his strongest supporters were lower income self identified Republicans who were registered as Democrats. Figure that one out.

Not that this matters. Except for Kasich I don't think there was a person running whom I felt  I could get enthusiastic about.

Racism is not a problem in the Republican party. That is simply something the Democratic party likes to insist on because people listen to simple catch phrases and can vote accordingly.

PrettyPantherposted 7 years agoin reply to this

Well, I respectfully disagree.  Here is one example.  The GOP has consistently tried to make it difficult for people to vote, knowing that it would disproportionately affect the economically disadvantaged which, in southern states in particular, disproportionately affects black people.  The GOP knows this.  They also know that voter fraud, the excuse they give for voter suppression legislation, is so negligible as to be almost nonexistent.  They know this, yet they continue on in their attempts to suppress votes.

Also, if a party leader endorses an openly racist candidate, is he not, at the very least tolerating racism? If Paul Ryan isn't racist, then he is just a party tool who is willing to endorse a racist for the sake of the party.  Either way, it's pretty slimy.

Sorry, I don't think the GOP can have their cake and eat it, too.  If they don't want to be considered racist, then the party needs to stop tolerating, and even endorsing, openly racist people and policies.

I think you may not understand what racism is and why the Republicans are considered to be the party of racists. It's not a catch phrase, they openly practice racism. It is very obvious and inappropriate behavior to those who can see it.

Recently, we had a directive come down from Austin police chief, Art Acevedo. All officers are now to actually question everyone they give a ticket to to ask them "what race are you?".
My answer is immediate and clear - My 'race' is HUMAN.
I don't understand racism and never will. I don't get that some people think they are SUPERIOR (or INFERIOR) simply because of what shade of brown their skin is or isn't.
It's like saying blue eyed people are smarter than green eyed people.
It is simply a genetic expression of whatever DNA you have inherited.
For this reason alone, I will not support the Republican party.

A true racist ?  Is someone who can take an entire nation of  people who have all but healed from whatever horrible remnants  of true  racism had existed   for a couple hundred years  and in the last forty to fifty years and all but HEALED !    AND THEN  re-open those very same old and all but healed wounds , intentionally . Also , doing so with a direct and intentional  will to harm a society ,    And here's the kicker ,   perhaps only liberals can answer this ,  He did so why ?

Because he comes from the  nostalgia   of pseudo- intellectual - divisive  1960's  social re-engineering activist mentality , in other words , stir up the barrel  and while everybody is busy hating , no ones watching what you're really doing ,  as you tear  apart  a constitution ?

And one more question , Just how  pretentious  is it to ask a question directly of "Republicans only " ?   I'll tell ALL  liberals something , I'm an older guy , 63 this next winter and I started out  socially maturing  as a liberal in the late  1960's  and seventies during all of the  summer of love  stupidity , during all of the REAL social revolution in America  ,  And I am damned ashamed of the bias , racism , and downright vitriolic hatred  demonstrated  of and by all  liberals today !

THE REAL RACISTS IN THE LAST FIFTEEN YEARS , SINCE RACISM   BEGAN IT'S NEW PHASE OF PRETEND PUBLIC DIALOG  IN AMERICA  , COMES DIRECTLY FROM THE LEFT ,IS PROMOTED BY THE LEFT AND WILL DIE AWAY  FROM  OUR PUBLIC DISCUSSION WHEN THE LEFT DECIDES IT HAS NO  POLITICALLY CORRECT RESULT AND CAN'T ANY MILAGE ANY LONGER !

We PAY the government to take care of its citizens! We are ENTITLED to have a say in what they do with OUR money!

We DEMOCRATICALLY ELECT representatives that are SUPPOSED to do their jobs and protect us, our country, our jobs, our welfare, our infrastructure, our foreign relations, our world!

When the Republicans demonstrate that they will WORK for the people, I will support them. Until then, I will not vote for obstructionism, racism, blatant disrespect for our system, and those that REFUSE to do the job we elected them to do!

The GOP right now is also scrambling to bring up a candidate for a contesting of the convention .As  Paul Ryan is a moderate  who might as well  be a democrat ,  They would rather lose the election to Clinton  than stand solidly behind Trump or any outsider .

We all know that both the GOP and the DNC  are experiencing growing pains .   They are extremely afraid of losing their jobs and their collective power of the political purse .  Americans on the street are angry as hell  And want an outsider -  Congress and senate  are power mongers who are willing to destroy the popular vote completely TO KEEP THERE OWN  kinds  in office.
