Problems uploading photos to hubs

Anyone else having issues uploading photos for their hubs? I uploaded my first photo with zero problems about 10 minutes ago, and now I've tried 4 or 5 times and each time, I get this error message: "Something went wrong trying to upload your image to the server." No instructions about what to do next. I currently can't publish my hub because the photos aren't working.

I just checked and it looks like images are loading fine for me. Are you still having this issue, Kella?

I am still having a problem even when I try photos that worked when I put them into the hub I did yesterday.

I have found that it will let me upload the photos if they are under 1 MB, but just now I went to finish my Hub, and while it says the photos uploaded successfully and it gives me the prompt to add a source and caption, the photo itself isn't visible. It's not visible on the editing page or the preview either. Tried with several other photos, same problem.

kella. I looked for a post to see if others were having the same problem, but did not look far enough down the list. So I started a new post. Thanks for replying and directing me here.

I just tried it again and yes, still having the issue.

On a hunch, I tried uploading a photo under 1 MB and it worked. It just so happened that all the photos I had used in the past were less than 1 MB, and all the photos I wanted to use this time were more than 1 MB. But also, there's no information in the photo upload screen that says there's a maximum size for photos. And when I searched for problems related to uploading photos, a maximum size did not come up in any of the threads.

For the internet you don't need foto's that are over 1MB at all. You'll need some kind of photo program where you can downsize your photos with. What I do is the following: I make a copy of the original and downsize it to 600x450 or 450x600 depending if it's horizontal or vertical. That's enough to have a sharp photo for the internet. I save it under a different name. That way you keep the big original and use the downsized photo for HP.

Use an editing program such as Picmonkey.com (used to be free but now costs around $5 per month).  That way you can resize your photos.  I always make my smallest pixels 1000 and never have problems uploading.

It's a great program and is well worth every penny, although there are other free ones out there.  However, I find this one to be extremely user friendly.

I'm familiar with how to resize photos and make them smaller in file size as well. But what I'm wondering is if there is a rule stated somewhere that the maximum file size is 1MB or if that's a bug. Since it's not stated anywhere, I'm assuming it's a bug.

So there is a maximum photo size?

Now I'm having this problem too. Uploading to the photo capsule or to my photo album, either way, has the same results. The upload doesn't give any errors, but the image is not available.  I tried it with jpg and png files and both filetypes fail.

It's not a size problem. I usually reduce my images to under 100KB to allow my hubs to load faster. Google Analytics usually reports loading delays when I use many images over 1 Meg. But as I said, this is not the cause of the problem we have now with the uploading.

I tested with Safari and Firefox. Same problem.
There is definitely a system problem on the server side.

      Glenn,
I am having the same issue as you describe. I am trying to replace a few photos to the proper width, and nothing comes up in the photo capsule in a hub. I've wasted over an hour trying all kinds of things, and now have a few hubs with no photos.

It is from the server side.

Thanks for confirming this Jean.  I spent a lot of time now too, trying different things. Even a good file that worked yesterday no longer works. I sent an email direct to the team just now about this.  Looks like at least four of us have the same problem.

Another test: I just tried uploading the exact same image file that worked yesterday and that failed too. So the problem started happening sometime after midday Monday.

They started about 30 minutes before I posted my question. I think around 5:30 EST today, Tuesday. I always put my pictures into my hub  after I am done with the text. I had done three and was attempting to do the 4th when the photo capsules stopped working.

I just tested a draft hub and tried to put a photo into it. I couldn't see the picture where it shows to put in the source and info so I added info and hit save and it just shows the info in the photo area. Hope they fix it soon.

I'm really bummed out. I want to get my pictures uploaded so my hub will look right. If anybody finds that the photo capsules are working properly again, Please let us all know. I'm tired of checking every hour.

It's still not working - I attempted to post a picture in a new forum submission a short time ago

I just received a reply from Robin. She created a bug report for the engineers to look at it tomorrow. It's wonderful that she replied so late at night. It's nice to know that someone is paying attention.

Knowing how many of us are now having this problem, I expect it will be resolved by tomorrow. So for now, I'm taking a break with my new hub, it's late anyway. Goodnight all.

I reported the bug to our engineers, and we will fix it as soon as we can.  Thanks so much for reporting the bug.  I'm sorry for the inconvenience.  smile

Thank you for doing that! I'm new to hubpages so I wasn't familiar with how to report a bug, and wasn't sure if it was a bug or just a mistake I was making.
