Japanese tourists are the most well mannered people I have met.  Back in the 80's we used to have tons of Japanese tourists at Disneyland, and I remember one lady having me sit on her lap during the shuttle ride to the park.

Any chances she was a pedophile? wink

No, she was a very nice lady actually.  The shuttle was really crowded, so she wanted me to sit on her lap instead of standing.  This was back when the Japanese economy was booming and large numbers would vacation here in California.  I really do not see as many Japanese tourists these days, plus now they have their own Disneyland closer to home.

LOL Of course I was kidding Sweetie. smile

Yet your example is more of kindness, which Americans have not less than Japanese. Manners would be for example not talking too loud in public places. This kind of stuff, you know. smile

Yes I hate how loud Americans are in restaurants, and I am American!  You know people still go in libraries and proceed to shout into their cell phones when other people are reading, even though there are large signs saying "please turn off your phone".

Yep, exactly. smile And I don't think anything changed in that area since I met a first American in my life, that's why I disagree to Pam. smile

Perhaps, but 11th of 21 isn't exactly something to brag about either.

I also find it amusing that the headline loudly pronounces the French the worst tourists in the world and you have to actually read the article to notice that they're merely the worst from European countries and the Indians and Chinese are actually numbers 2 and 1 in awfulness respectively. Guess Time is too afraid of p****** off our banker overlords to be intellectually honest. tongue

Well Americans have always been a rabble rousing bunch to be honest with you.  However, pgrundy does have a few good points.  She is just tired of all the nonsense, and I do agree with her on that.  However, the unfortunate part is people have always been rude to each other, so not much has changed.  In some ways I think we have improved though, such as standing in line and waiting our turn.  People say please and thank quite a bit more than I would have thought before I worked with the public.

I was definitely not saying I disagree with her whole post. I specifically quoted the part I disagreed with smile

I have two questions. 1) what do you mean "worked with the public", and, 2)why does your profile speak in the third party?

Why is this ever relevant? Many writers write their profiles in the third person. I have several profiles on the net that do that.

pgrundy finds your second question strange. She feels that UninvitedWriter was just being a writer. pgrundy would invite Uninvited Writer anywhere! big_smile

        Jibberish,

I thought it would be fun to write a profile in the third person for creative reasons, and I am not the first person in the world to ever do that.  I work with a large number of people in a public setting, so I have learned that people are not always as rude as one would think.

Hey, Neil Gaiman says in one of his bios that it's one of his pastimes to talk about himself in the third person smile

It was clear that Sarah palin did not have a grasp of what national politics was all about. This is as evident in her premature response to issues at her disposal during the campaign period. She became popular not by her own gift but by conservative forces that wanted to stop Obama at all cost.
