There is an idea called the 'perennial philosophy' which says that there is one common underlying spiritual truth which all religions come from. Do you think there could ever be an objective religion, or a religion of basic principles or something which could unite all other religions?
But what about a kind of 'meta-definition' capable of validating seemingly opposing definitions? There are examples of apparent paradoxes in physics where two apprently very different things are seen to be two side of the coin of a deeper truth.
Maybe if the ONLY rule was: "Be good to others." Unfortunately 'be good' could probably be interpreted a thousand different ways. *sigh*
Well said RooBee, I think this could only be the RULE. But again you are right, everyone has their own definitions.
I don't think so. Religion is man made to be a form of control and no religion is going to compromise, they may tolerate and recognize other religions but they will never give up their control.
I think there could be, but I don't any religion is ever going to get rid of the practices/beliefs that differentiate it from other religions; because, by virtue of its being a religion, people think it would be evil to get rid of some of that stuff - and so, there's no hope (at least not for a long, long, time). For some reason, "Hey, all we faithful folks believe in God, and none of us believing in hurting anyone or the world" doesn't fly in religious circles.
Poor Barack Obama.... He's getting - like - Bush's whole eight years' worth of enmity toward him condensed down in a few months. That was one short honeymoon.
Will those who claim that Obama has screwed the entire country up in a matter of months also give him full credit when things start to get better....? Doubtful. We'll probably hear about how he's lame and not doing anything. The man is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
Not even giving the man even a smidgen of a chance speaks volumes about folks.
Sorry, digressed to politics...darn you Lisa HW (j/k)!
