I just lost lotsa info etc.  My computer MEDION, was suddenly shutting down and rebooting every once in a while then twice a week, twice a day.  Whenever I tried to multitask.

I pressed Publish on a hub an hour ago and boom gone black.  with no bootup.  Then I got scared.   using my old dell from the Commercial mortgage days.  4 gigs or whatever.  No disc drive for burning.  Waaaah!

DJ, I had to have my hard drive replaced in my laptop a few weeks ago, and I lost a bunch of information, but nothing really super critical.
If you had something critical on your computer though alot of these really good computer guys/girls can get the information off your hard drive anyway- even if it's corrupt I've heard they have their ways.
And for the future- if you have computer questions, I wrote a hub about computer advice. Check out the link in the hub to the techguy forums. This is an awesome free advice website for computer help. These people have helped me lots of times. Really nice people there.

Just be happy that your computer did not die in the middle of your Master's thesis.  That was a fun year.

Its good that you have at least some kind of back up no matter how low the specs are!!

I would reccomend everyone here at hubpages or anyone who works online to buy a cheap-expensive or what ever you can afford as a backup!!....
I would have thought you would have backed up as much as you could before this happened, seeing as you were pre warned!...

Dorsis link is usefull, but if you cannot afford to call in the troops to fix, leave more information here about what is exactly happening when you reboot!!    Is the harddrive making noise, Is the  harddrive light flashing..........It sounds like safe mode is out of the question if your screen is blank!!...Im not sure of your PC knowledge so forgive me if it feels like im patronising you:)

I  have always fixed every PC problem i have had!! if i cannot fix it its broken, and even if its broke i have revived some way or another!!  .....via formatting,  freezing. and banging lol

Sometimes i look at certain problems as a blessing in disguise!!, It could be a hint to buy a new one;)

That is true Compu-smart.  I am on computer number four since 2000.  My sister some how dropped my lap top and cracked the screen, which means now I have to hook my old monitor onto the laptop, so part of my old computer became useful after all.  Soon I will just buy a new laptop, but not when I am roommates with her, unless I want it to get broken again LOL.

Aww, Sweetiepie, its a shame that your laptop is not so mobile now!!

When ever someone asks me about weather they should buy a laptop or desktop, i now tell them first, a laptop has more chance of being dropped or stolen!!

Having said that i hope to buy myself a new laptop soon...... and be very very carefull;)

Hey sorry about the computer...know that very well...but can I change the subject?  I like writing and I have seen the help and other forums but.....duh...I still don't understand how to put what I need on my hubs to generate income....I joined digg but that was totally fruitless, it is even more confusing over there.  Please point me to the walk through for the internet novice.

    Thanx bunches!!!

    smooches

Very sorry to hear.  I've had two hard drives die in the past ten years - both times the experience was painful, very painful.  I never knew before that they could fail (well, at least not mine).  After the first one died, I practiced "backup, backup, backup", well, at least for a while.  After the second one died, I again started to "backup, backup, backup..." I'm afraid its like eating your vegetables though... we know we should do it but -
Don't mean to make light of your situation (if I did). As I said, I've been there and it hurts. Good luck!
