Even though most of us on here (including me, by the way) weren't around when those classic 40's movies were out, many of us have seen them and have particular favorites.

One of mine was The Lost Weekend (guy gets hit by a car and loses his memory).  Another was Greer Garson in Madame Curie.

Do you have any favorites?  How about favorite actors from that era?

Greer Garson and Katherine Hepburn were among mine.  Robert Taylor was another one.

      Hi,
I do not know exactly whether it is 1940's movie or not but it is an old one. This is Mughal-e-Azam. It is a movie made in Mumbai, India. It is a classic movie depicting love story of Shehzada Salim (Jahangeer, Mogul emperor) and Anarkali.

      Thanks,

Thanks. There are many Indian movies of that era worth viewing. Some of them are Biraj Bahu, Valika vadhu, Mother India, Jhanak Jhanak payal Baje etc.

My knowledge of the era is severely limited, but I'm partial to Citizen Kane, The Treasure of Sierra Madre, and Pinocchio.

there's been quite a few Oscar best picture winners that are musicals (using Oscar as benchmark for quality, and therefore likeability) and there's one in the 40s - Going My Way with Bing Crosby cool

Shadow of a Doubt.  Alfred Hitchcock.  This one of his rarely gets talked about as a classic (Psycho & The Birds always overshadow it) but it is an amazing film.

casablanca tops the list for me.  I could watch it over and over.

hmm, also I think, The Grapes of Wrath, Notorious, Rebecca. cool

there are more, I can't think of their names.

Hitchcock classics like Foreign Correspondent and Notorious are among my faves. And as cheesy as many say it was, an obscure film noir called Deadline At Dawn is one I frequently revisit.

Mine would have to be It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart
and Miracle on 34th Street with Maureen O'Hara and Natalie Wood.

I watch them at least once every year during the holiday season and have been doing that since I was a kid. Wouldn't be Christmas without them!
