The term "to let go and let God" to me is a totally subjective knowing. Like sacrifice or surrender, again totally subjective and according to circumstance. In meditation, again the same, but like allowing the human components ( like thoughts) to be suspended by an act of will.

      nice
In meditation when one starts concentrating on the point of light, the more intense his concentration the more he will see only the light and his thoughts also will slow down.We are clinging to things which is attatchment .It may be a family member, friend, girl friend,a car etc.
The sanyasis of old days would not stay in one place for over three days as it was enough to be attatched in a few days to anything maybe a plant or animal.
Slowly one  by one will be left behind ,at this time you will be racing at immense speeds towards and away from the light with every breath. This will be your soul.
You are allways in control but then one must let go at this time, that is forget everything on earth-then he implodes into the light before exploding to infinite light.God-home-bliss.

There are also situations when the meditation is done for you.  This is available in some teachings where the intensity is such, the giving over is effortless.  There is indeed a letting go of everything, not unlike a giving up of thoughts.  What is experienced however, is a levity in and above the head. Absolutely no chitta and no mind.  In some teachings the word soul is equated to the subtle body of mind and emotions.  The word Ego is reserved for a higher state of being, this is not something to give up.

Where have you read ego is reserved for a higher state of being, would love to read that philosophy.:
You got to die in meditation, give up totally ,surrender.
Ego is what you are that is,your name, family, country, religion etc.
