Why did I not receive credit for a referral

I got my future brother in law interested in hubpages, I know for a fact that he had never heard of or visited Hubpages  before because he is a fairly new computer user and he had never been online before.

I helped him setup a web based email account and then from my notebook I sent him a direct link to the sign up page, which as you can see below does includes a newly created unique referral tracker "whatitis" which I created just before sending him this link  http://hubpages.com/_whatitis/user/new/.

He sign up as soon as the email arrived in his inbox, I was still setting right there with him this whole time, but when I check my referral tracker stats for "whatitis" under my account the only thing it shows is that he visited the page. It does not show any signups. I clicked on the referral tracker link for "whatitis" and this is the message I see "Sorry, no users have signed up under this tracker yet."

Why did I not receive credit for him signing up?

At first I thought maybe it takes a little while for the system to update so I waited a couple of hours and checked again still nothing, so I waited until the next day (today) but there is still no credit for the referral showing up.

What is the problem and is there a way to get this straightened out so I receive credit for this referral?

I'd say give it a little time. Things might not move that fast-- especially on weekends.  It might depend upon him actually making a hub?? You can check in a few days with the HP team and ask them directly.

        Rochelle, thanks for replying...
You may be right about him having to actually make a hub first but that would really be a piss poor way of doing things don't ya think? I guess I'll have to go do some research on that one because I sure don't remember reading anything about that in the FAQ or terms, Thanks

Are you being entirely factually correct when you state "he had never been online before?" because if he had stumbled upon a hubpage through another referral link within a certain period before... then he would have needed to clear his cookies before going through yours. I am with Rochelle though, give it some time to update.

Yes, I'm sure he had never been online before, he just moved here from South Korea and had never even used a computer before now.

As far as cookies go... well that would make sense but the computer he is using was a brand new build I did just for him at the request of my Fiancee (his sister) so there were no cookies to worry about.

When I look at my referrals, there are a lot of people who have never made a Hub listed, so someone doesn't have to make any Hubs to show up as your referral.

And unless your referrals make a lot of high-quality, high-traffic Hubs, it's really moot that they are there anyway.

He may have accidentally clicked another referral before yours. Or maybe he didn't sign up properly. It doesn't matter whether he writes or not, as when signed up properly under a referral, it shows in your account.

maybe send team@hubpages an email via you referred users account - point out this thread and ask for a manual correction?

Im sure it would have updated by now - I see new referred users almost daily, certainly doesnt take this long to update

I'm not sure they'd do a manual update, as they could get tons of people abusing the system that way. But, by emailing them, they may be able to look into it for you.
