    Hello,
I've been on hubpages for about a week.  There is only traffic from hubpages and mturk on my traffic tab.  How long will it before I start to get traffic from google.  All of my articles are featured and I don't want to lose it from lack of google traffic.  Thanks!

Hello (Thanks for the follow earlier)

I took a peek and congratulations with a great start in my view. With as many Hubs = Internet Articles there apparently is great success with Hubs Being Featured offering access to the Internet with its Search Engines - Google, Bing, and etc. The Learning Center you may have visited offers great information.

Regarding Google traffic I really only began to understand that over the past year specifically the last six months. It is a quandary somewhat. Some by fortune have good luck in the beginning while most walk along a path of learning.

One thing I did notice to consider is you may be qualifying your Internet Article at each entrance with ' . . . this is a hubpage' offering being an authoritative source perhaps. Agreed HP is a site with authority as a source, however it will be noticed it is a HP article at the top of the Hub. Also, the focus as an Internet Article is the author authority firstly with article itself followed by being Niche topic. You certainly established that. Personally I am still seeking that with pondering.

Firstly, Google is a Search Engine for the Internet with the purpose of ranking the indexed articles. Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which is a science itself, is used to better the ranking. There are principals and techniques. Again, I am not an expert and a beginner with learning the science.

A key is it is the Content itself as a stronger focus with that changing science with the algorithms used by Google determining the ranking. A key for content are three main elements discovered at their published guide for human raters. It is for their internal structure, although leaked. It states for both an article and a website three main focus points using an Acronym E-A-T:

      Expertness
      Authoritativeness
      Trustworthiness

It is a rather lengthy guide. If study is desired or perusal it may be discovered at this article Google’s Quality Rating Guide Leaked Again; Here Is Version Five. However with a strong emphasis there is complexity with it. It really is not necessary to get a good start.

There are many informative Hubs with Hubbers having success with SEO. One liked by many is by Writer Fox with the article WHAT IS SEO? | SEO Tips and Tutorial 2014 For a good start using the advice of many successful here at Hubpages has great worth. The forums is a great resource more than using the Answer section here at HP for the purpose of SEO.

Another step may be at SEO learning Websites such as MOZ.com or Search Engine Land. I liked Moz's Beginner Guide found at this link. It is pretty thorough beginning with How a Search Engine Works.

      Some hints are:

** It begins with what audience is sought, where is it, and how big is that
      ** User Experience and engagement
** Format - Mobile becoming more popular and Desktop (A hint is with Mobile not to use locate a capsule to the right as a side bar. Desktop that offers greater enhancements at times)
** For the purpose of users searching focus is the Title, Keywords (sometimes is tricky with not to used to many times), choosing the correct Topic for the purpose of the URL, and the Summary - seen at the Google Snippet describing the content creating interest to read the Article
** Internal Article Structure with Subheadings, images - pictures, tables, graphs, and etc.

      SEO and traffic Tools:
HP My Account Page with all its links
      Google Analytics
Google Webmasters (Recently there is discussion of its value since HP changed its focus from being SubDomain site to now being a Topic Driven site)

I hope that helps with adventure with SEO . . .

tsmog, thank you for providing this great source of information.  I agree with you that my statement about hubpages could stand to be removed.  I knew I was going into a niche topic but I agree with you that only SEO can help me navigate this problem now.  Thanks again, I will work on the titles and the summary that you referenced.

I considered that and probably should offer an apology for posting that lengthy answer as a discussion point. Sharing is I took hiatus from HP for about 2 years. Returning about a year ago or so the business & social climate was dramatically changed. With that in mind I deleted near 200 unproductive hubs with Google traffic narrowing it to seven new ones this year. My thought was they did not contribute to what is advocated. I spent the last year listening in the forums to those much more experienced than I while researched the mind boggling SEO.

What I did post began as Hub Length+, then it became nearer 600 words with editing. It would not pass the QAP, a saturated marketplace regarding SEO, and I have no experiential knowledge to support having expertise. At best a social market place. So, I took advantage of an audience of one. Frankly, I am in quandary about publishing again.

The SEO knowledge you are gaining will help you figure out how to publish successfully.  There  is a learning curve and very few people are able to navigate publishing without any hurdles.  I appreciated the long post by the way.  I

I took a look at your profile and I have to say, I think you're misunderstanding how HubPages works.

Your profile says "This website offers high-yield questions for the USMLE...."

Your profile is not a website, and your Hubs do not reside on your own website either.  You have an account, which allows you to post on a huge magazine-style site, and a profile where you can keep track of your Hubs - that's all.  90% of your readers will never visit your profile, so they will never see all your Hubs in one place.

The navigation of HubPages encourages readers to browse around the whole site by topic, NOT to stay within one author's set of articles.  Readers are not able to sign up to be notified of new posts, and you will never be able to build a loyal following or even know who your readers are.  "Followers" on HubPages are other writers, not readers.

After all that you may wonder why people even bother to write on HubPages, but it's not all bad.  For people who want to write on a variety of topics, it's a good thing to be part of a huge multi-topic site, because smaller multi-topic blogs don't get traffic.  For a specialist like yourself, however, you'll have a much better chance of gaining traffic if you start your own blog somewhere like Blogger.

Marisa, I believe you hit the nail dead-on.  I clearly see now that hubpages is a place for other writers.  To keep my articles featured I will need to be able to generate a good amount of internal traffic.  As you have stated, the material is specialized and will prevent me from doing that.  If I lose my features then I lose my google presence, so the problem will continue to fee forward.  I think you are right.  I think I should probably try my luck on another hosting network.  Thanks for the advice!

        1. Marisa Wright profile image86
Marisa Wrightposted 8 years agoin reply to this

Not quite!   You've got it back to front.

To keep your Hubs Featured, you must get EXTERNAL traffic - internal traffic does not count at all.   Internal traffic is simply a nice motivating factor, because you can feel part of a community of writers.

Also, HubPages is not a "hosting platform". It is a site where members can write individual magazine-style articles. I think you need a blogging platform, where you can create a reputation for yourself as an expert on your subject.

It can take a few months, maybe longer, to start getting organic traffic, depends on subject matter. However, once the traffic starts coming, it can be a lot of traffic--again, depends on subject matter.

My traffic has gone up this week. However, after checking my stats carefully, I noted that there is all most no traffic from Google. The majority of the traffic is from Hubpages.  With all the promotion of others hubs on my pages, I have made 0 funds for this month.  It's just my opinion, we seem to be spamming each other hubs... Hate to bring this up -  When Squidoo started to do this, it was the beginning to the end.  I worked hard to clean up my Hubs of any spam link, cut most of my links to Amazon in hopes that when Google bots visited again, I would be good to go. Well, I can see all my work has been undone by all the numerous links to in-site Hubpages. Very discouraged at this point.

Welcome to HubPages. There used to be a shampoo commercial here in Australia with the catchphrase "it won't happen overnight, but it will happen!"
The same applies to Google traffic here at HP. In the five weeks I have been here, I have had six visits from Google Germany. This is out of more than 300 hits.

Be patient, and keep turning out well written, informative Hubs. You will get the traffic!

Your hubs are indexed by Google, but there is a lot of competition for the keywords you are using so it is going to be difficult to make it to the first page.

  6. profile image0

Are you sure?  When I google I find nothing on my page, not even the name of the blog.

  7. LeanMan profile image80

    Firstly - Welcome to HP

If you want traffic then you will need to firstly find areas in which people are searching - use google keyword tool to get an idea about search volumes.. You want to be writing about something that people are actually searching for...

Secondly you want to be aiming at something that is not to competitive - if you search for your keywords and all you get it top class respected long established medical sites then you are not going to rank for those keywords...

Having every hub with the same title is going to annoy Google - "USMLE Step 3 ....." on every hub is not going to help you. Your keywords are more important the further to the left they are.. But all being the same may make Google think you are a spammer trying to rank for keywords...
    Make every title completely unique...

    Good luck

You can definitely get a lot of traffic on medical topics but you have to do some keyword research for titles that will attract traffic in the search engine. As a starter, you might want to check out Wrylilt's Hub on getting traffic using  Google Suggest. It's a good simple method, though there are other methods, including what LeanMan suggested, which is very effective too.
