There's no absolute number.  "Good" is subjective.

For me it depends on how many page impressions it takes to make a sale or have someone click on an ad. So it varies for each page. Generally across all of my hubs, blogs and websites, it takes about 65 clicks to make a sale. And it takes 110 page impressions to make 65 clicks. But that is an average and within that average there is a huge variation for individual niches and products.

My eBay Details shows 95 Clicks with only 20 Impressions this month. What does that mean?

      1. Lgali profile image39
Lgaliposted 2 years ago in reply to this

95 Clicks with only 20 Impressions does not get any money until you get some sales

    Nelle Hoxieposted 2 years ago

Yes you are reading that correctly. But my numbers come from tens of thousands of page impressions, not 300. That number is too small to make generalizations about. You need to have a lot more activity to make any type of statistical analysis valid.

And that number is also from many years of data. There is a fluctuation for time of year and the status of the economy.

I've spent the last five years, developing keyword strategies, writing marketing copy and working on page layouts. and testing, testing, and more testing.

suffice it now to say that I am in love with hubpages!

My keyword strategy isn't all from online keyword tools. I spent two hours at the shopping mall today, watching what people were buying. Several new stores have opened and I went in to see what they are selling.

Nelle your work ethic is commendable. I have been at this Adsense thing for about a week now and I have about 820 page impressions and currently 16 clicks.  For a novice I think it's good because every I see a new click it gives me motivation to know that all the constant hours getting my links out there is paying off even if I have yet to cross the $10 mark.  I know it takes time and lots of material out there and reading your post just gave me tons of more motivation.  Thanks Nelle.

Benz B I love your avatar. It gives me loads of inspiration!

Yes there is lots of money to be made online, but it isn't fast or easy. It requires a consistent and persistent work attitude.

I think you are off to a great start!

I'm starting to realise that 'quality' content means content that delivers people who want to buy something to advertisers who want to sell. Well written and informative pages may or may not be quality content.

Writing compelling marketing copy is an art in itself and no less of a skill then writing a novel.

And yes, if you want to make money quickly and efficiently online, then you need to write marketing copy about things people want to buy. I would argue that these pages are also well written and informative. And creative.

It also takes a great deal of discipline. Because you have to write a great deal of it to make a living.

There are lots of good books about writing advertising copy, you might want to read one or two for inspiration.

Nellie, I was grateful for your contribution earlier, so I hope that you weren't offended by what I said. It certainly wasn't a comment on your writing. It was a comment on mine. I need to get more worldly because, unfortunately, I need the money.

Hi Will, No I wasn't offended at all!

But seriously marketing copy books give you really good ideas on how to write to sell. Just hit Borders or Barnes & Noble and sit in the biz section and read for a while. You don't have to spend $$$, they let you sit and read there.

Or alternatively watch QVC, I have it on right now. Listen to how they describe products.

    Hi Nelle,

Very interesting posts, I really enjoy writing content about which I am passionate, and so far have had a fairly decent CTR with it. However to make decent money, I think you need to right about what is 'hot' at the moment, I guess the only problem is it causes peaks and troughs in your income, do you find this?

Also could you actually sugest any good books on marketing copy?

    Thanks dipless

With a few years of data gathered about my Hubs, I find that there are overall peaks and troughs across the year regardless of what I'm writing about and whether it's hot or not.  These patterns only can be applied to myself, as it's part a reflection of what sites I write for and part a reflection of what I write about.  But these patterns show pretty steadily across all my sites, so it gives me a lot of good info for when and how to earn.

Thanks, I have got a lot of data gathering to do, as I am very new to this, so thanks for the info appreciated smile

@Nelle 65 clicks only yields 1 buy? This seems like a very low number to me. It's only about a 1.5% conversion rate. Your click-through rate is unbelievably high at 55% or so.

With Amazon people regularly report anywhere from 5-15% conversion rates. Mine was 12% last month. I'm sorry I just find your numbers to be quite atypical, even allowing for all the usual statistical differences, fluctuations, different strategies, etc.

Am I misunderstanding what you mean by clicks?

  15. bgpappa profile image93
    bgpappaposted 2 years ago

My Amazon conversion rate was 17.5%.  EBAy, 0%.  lol

As to the OP, traffic depends on the topic.  I try to do what I can to make sure each hub has views per week, meaning no hub has no views in a week.  If it does, I edit, change the topic, build banklinks, etc.  My traffic has been steady and I am fairly happy with it, although it doesn't compare to many others.

Depends on the content and your own expectations.

Those impressions to click throughs is amazing. I am happy when i get a few per hundred impressions. My average is around 2 or 3 click outs per hundred visitors.
