Anyone up for another "instant hub challenge?"

Ok, so a few weeks ago I was drinking on a Friday night (like every other night) and decided to have a 30 minute hub writing contest.  U know, they have 30 hubs in 30 days, so I figured why not 1 hub in 30 minutes?

We got like four hubs done, and another that didn't make it in a half hour, but finished two days later.  Very cool.  My Lowe's customer service hub came out of that, and still gets a little traffic and some laughs despite my lack of touching it since.

So, anyway, here I am, reaching deeper into the fridge wondering if anyone would be up for that?  If anyone is even here tonight.

Will even go 45 minutes or an hour if people haven't the backbone for 1 hub in 30 minutes.

    Anyone?

Yeah I got one. It'll be pure rant, but I got one.

    No, it'll be a parody.

So sorry I have to bail out with Rochelle. I would love a quicky but I am making tacos and watching The Wolf Man. Next time I promise.

    Drink and write, Rochelle.

I'll see if we get a couple of others.  Maybe let this stew till 9:30 and see if we get at least four or so.

Pandora, rant's are the best way to go on something like this.  Has to be stream of consciousness, since planning is not an option.  Or barely one.

Just spread out some newspaper all over the room where you and she are, then you can write a hub and she can... relax too.  Everyone's happy, bladder free, and hubbing!!!!

So, me, Audrevea and Pandora so far.  Rochelle being a wuss, and Thisisoli needing his beauty sleep.

13 minutes ... need at least one more person to commit.

Well, you have at least 9 minutes, plus probably some fudge time before we actually say GO!!

With such a short time, you kinda just have to write and see what comes out.  Edit tomorrow. LOL
Rants work well.  Frankly, I was really happy with my Lowe's hub because it was raw.  Ranting under pressure forces you to NOT edit and just BE, which makes for great reading.

You guys all cool with 30 minutes, or do you need baby pants in case you leak and want 45?

We'll start at 9:40 on MY clock, pacific time.  Will be 30 minutes unless someone cries and wants 45 minutes and makes a case in the next 5 minutes for the extra 15 minutes.

        1. mythbuster profile image71
mythbusterposted 14 years agoin reply to this

NOPE - not ONE SINGLE CLUE lol

I actually never wrote ANYTHING, really 'til about 10 minutes had passed 'cos I kept changing my mind

ie: "new hub on BEKs" (tossed that out...getting tired of black eyed kids)

"new hub on urban legends" (thought that would be cheating 'cos I know so many mini-legends)

"new hub on just ONE type of conversational argument" (no way 'cos my "argument" hub has turned HUGE and into a nightmare project - I'll be adding to it all weekend)

So finally...my cat showed me his belly and "mrowled" at me and I started writing... he also had just busted through my jacket with his claws when I got home this evening...and purred 'til I thot I would need to call the vet 'cos it sounded almost like choking lol...and I felt AWFUL for starting this contest when I had been home less than 20 min and hadn't cuddled with him enough......

Long story eh? longer than the time for writing the hub... but I got a good 20 min in after my cat missed me and I realized I missed him, too...

          1. Shadesbreath profile image78
Shadesbreathposted 14 years agoin reply to this

The cat thing was my favorite part.  That is so, so true.  The belly exposed is a trust thing. And the jacket.. well, yeah. Cat love.  Great.  Not it owes me $200 bucks.

I need a new jacket anyway...I'm in Canada - had this coat for 3yrs already, wore it homeless, home-found, it's close to "been" - it's done me good...as always, hopin' the cat will outlast the jacket, anyway! He'd better! I can't replace him after a season or two.

Yeah me too. I dunno why people hate me. wink

Actually, funny thing. I ruined my PB reputation right? Too many offended people in the forums, so I got a new ID to write 'money' hubs under -(money hubs being a great, just like, humongous overstatement in my case so far). But when I'm working in that account it's just easier to pop in the forums from there rather than sign out and sign back in under PB.

                Sounds awfully lazy, huh? LOL

So anyway, I started posting some under the new ID. Figure I'll build up my hubber score a little that way anyhow. I wasn't gonna offend anybody, stayed mostly out of the political and religious forums.

I ended up joining a thread about art. Nice and safe. I think you've seen that thread.

Turns out, doesn't matter which identity I use, or what forum I'm in, I can still be a witch. yikes

                1. Shadesbreath profile image78
Shadesbreathposted 14 years agoin reply to this

The only thing that makes me want to make a different identity is the shame I feel for writing commercial hubs (which is why I don't have any yet LOL).

I want to. I actually have an idea for one that doesn't corrupt me. I actually love the product.

I don't even hate capitalism.  I believe in the system as Adam Smith wrote it.  But, somehow, that's not what is happening.  Marx is closer in some ways, but nobody notices because, well, Marx wrote it and Stalin made Marx's name evil.  Etc. (Man, I bet that backfires on me from all the people who never actually read stuff, lol.)

                  1. Pandoras Box profile image60
Pandoras Boxposted 14 years agoin reply to this

I liked the "even for the tears" part too. Good thought.

Well, yeah, maybe the shame had something to do with it.

But in truth I had this account before. I had written a few fishkeeping hubs on it, and then stopped doing it when my dad passed away last fall.

When I came back I wanted to focus on different stuff, and I guess I had some thought that I might want to pick up the fishkeeping hubs at some point in the future, and wouldn't want them contaminated by my offensive opinions.

So I'm working in it again.

Okay now I'm really turning in. Late here, but was fun. Same time next week?

Nothing like being your own worse critic, huh? smile wink

And, Shades - the absolute power corrupts absolutely? dilemma...

Is not a dilemma, because only selfish people seek absolute power.

A person who seeks to be wealthy(greedy), but uses their wealth to help others improve, and not ask for anything in return is the answer.

      1. Pandoras Box profile image60

        1. Shadesbreath profile image78
Shadesbreathposted 14 years agoin reply to this

I don't need absolute power.  I only need enough power to carve me off a big house on a beautiful beach, a credit line at BevMo that never comes due, and enough health care coverage to allow me to enjoy that other stuff until I'm 102.

And I agree with Mythbuster, we do all rock!

  48. Cagsil profile image71
    Cagsilposted 14 years ago

Then again, a person who understand the power of money and respects it, wouldn't want absolute power. wink

    1. Shadesbreath profile image78
Shadesbreathposted 14 years agoin reply to this

My only thought is that we, you and I, having no actual experience with absolute power, really can't comment other than in theory and with what we like to think we would do.

      1. Cagsil profile image71
Cagsilposted 14 years agoin reply to this

You mean you cannot tell when someone is looking for power or just greedy?

I can see the power. I can see the wealth and what it does. It makes people think that are above all else.

Kind a like politicians, just their position is for a limited time, depending. But, if they play the people just right, they keep their power.

Think there is no corruption in Washington?? Congress?? America??

Corruption breeds absolute power and those who seek it, do so at the expense of everyone, no matter how they get it.

My life experiences of dealing with wealthy people has taught me what not to do. Therefore, I have faith in my own ability that I have no interest in seeking absolute power.
