Hey guys,
Whilst searching on google for one of my hub titles, I came across a site : besthubpages.com - Does anyone know anything about it ?
My hub had previously been top with this search, but now the link from this site to my hub rates higher than my actual hub does.
This site is hysterical. Somebody went through a lot of time and trouble to pull Hubs and their rankings (according to what standards?) into a site that purports to be some kind of analysis of HubPages. Well done, I say to the developers, because the site looks credible, on the surface. But what a joke! The "About Us" page is a scream. They can't spell, and they offer no information about "us". Yup, Internet presence at its best.
Moonbun, I didn't see your Hub's ranking, but I clicked the "Top Listings" tab, and all ten of the first page results are for sexy bollywood Hubs and things like them.
Gee, I guess this site really supports HubPages's reputation. (Tongue in cheek.)
Can't wait to hear more from HubPages and Hubbers. The owners of this site call themselves the "HubPages Team"...how interesting.
No they call themselves the "Best HubPages Team" which is a common thing to call yourself on a websites ie <insert website name> team.
I like the site -its clean - the advertising is not to in your face and I actually agree that hubpage's search is less than stellar and that I like having hubs in categories I can find too.
I think the OP who had the link on besthubpges rank higher than the actual hub - that the hub had just been picked up on bestHP - so it was "news". They don't have very strong backlinks so they wont consistently outrank if hp.com unless they work on it - a lot. Anyway it doesnt matter because any trafiic will click thru to your hub anyway
That site is owned by someone hellbent on getting some referral traffic. The site has 1000s of links with referral trackers in them. I wonder what will the people who complained about guidebaba's linkbacks!
More info on them here http://www.who.is/whois-com/ip-address/ … pages.com/
Netfirms Inc. is an Internet host provider, and I find it hard to believe that they would subsume a HubPages identity as part of their business plan. Oye, what's the world coming to? Thanks for the whois info, SunSeven. Maybe this picture is bigger than Netfirms Inc.
Lissie, you are right about the Best HubPages Team signature. If you take away the "Best", you are left with a proprietary use of the HubPages Team signature.
Granted, the Internet is a free-for-all environment, in many ways. But this site steps into the boundaries of an established company, HubPages. Why would HubPages want itself to be represented by this site? And representing HubPages is what this site appears to do (short of the HP logo). It's a close call.
Perhaps its a trademark issue. Remember the recent scrabble vs scrabulous?
Though it depends whether they are good for SE indexing or for traffic. Or in some cases both.
Is a tracker URL good for SE indexing?
Does the site get much traffic?
It could be no on both counts. But no harm is done.
I think I read somewhere from Paul or Jason that HP uses redirect 301 on trackers. It would be great if someone from the team would chime in and clarify.
SunSeven, exactly.
Misha, links may be links, but there's corporate identity to protect and preserve. In the days before Internet free-for-all, the lines were more clearly drawn. Now, the difference between "Best HubPages Team" and "HubPages Team" is as a fine filament, not clearly drawn at all.
I had seen the website before it came up on this thread and I didn't think there was anything wrong with the url or team's name. It's a directory where clicks are recorded in order to find the best hub. So "Best" Hubpages is a fine name. And of course the team of a site called Best Hubpages would be Best Hubpages Team. When I originally saw the site I didn't think it was impersonation - I figured it was a 3d party directory.
Btw besthubpages is 3d on yahoo (uk) so it can't be that bad. Like Misha said, "Links are links."
It's interesting that the Hubs under the tab "Top Listings" on this site would approximate the HubPages categories of either Best or Hot. In the "Top Listings" category on that site, all ten of the first page results are for sexy bollywood Hubs and things like them. The Best Hubs and Hot Hubs categories on HubPages would not reflect the same Hubs. Is this a misrepresentation of what HubPages is about? Just an interesting thought. And if this site records clicks to determine the "best" hub, then what is the HP rating system all about? Is HP missing its audience's preferences?
Misha, I agree. Let HP worry about this, if there is any worry.
Darkside, whether links from this site are good for SE indexing and traffic is not the issue. The issue is representation. Does this site purport to represent HP?
That's all.
The search for 'best hubpages' = http://www.google.co.in/search?num=20&a … &meta=
After 12 months, again here:

i always planned on building a site exactly like that!...its a good idea for referral earnings.
Im sure they are using trackers, which in turn would mean hub admin would know exactly who is benefiting from the site and prob sees it as beneficial. I know i would
I frequently use short snippets/summaries(way less than your dupe content flags, no worries) with ref links to the original hub article when im developing new sites.
Im guessing its your site, OP? just trying to drum up some interest?
It is a good idea, wonder how much traffic they get.
That whois lookup doesn't reveal anything cause the person who bought the domain name seems to have bought whois privacy to hide there identity. Sneaky hubber
I checked with my hosting service provider and I was given this name:

Whenever I wonder about a site's "worthiness", I check to see what Quantcast knows about 'em. (Never did like Alexa.) And Quantcast says they (Quantcast) can't even find enough data to profile besthubpages.
Which means they aren't much of a player, near as I can tell. My own piddly little site only gets about 100 views a day total (all pages), and Quantcast comes up with a detailed profile for it, in a heartbeat.

I noticed that when I checked my backlinks all of the ones from hubpages were 'nofollow' links. Should this be the case? (I've written several articles and I'd hate not to be getting the most out of them.) Or do I need to change something in the HTML coding linking the anchor text to my website? If...

Is there a way to get rid of unwanted traffic sites that attach a link to our hubs without our knowledge? I try to individually monitor my hubs for suspicious traffic and have written two letters to the offender who has sent me 8 visits on one hub this week. Now HubPages has marked my hub with a...

Post them in here. Please don't post them in other threads, or start multiple threads for individual hubs, as it will quickly fill up the sub-forum and make it harder for people to offer advice when help is being sort. So, post links in this thread. Nowhere else. Thanks!

I have just noticed today that many of my hubs where I reference other author's hubs and included a link to their profile, the URL has been shortened to just "hubpages.com" - thereby removing the actual link to the author. I have no idea how long this has been happening, but I am going...
