   We all know that good manners can help you get ahead in business, make friends, shop and travel in a pleasant manner, and have an easier time earning respect, but what about all the modern complications we deal with on a daily basis? Many of the etiquette guides we grew up with don’t address things like social media, smart phones, and fast-paced lifestyles.

         I had to write about how cell phone use sometimes drives me a little insane - from supermarkets to driving in the car.

         Just keep in mind that if you leave your Hub in the "courtesy in business" Topic, it should have a business slant to it. That said, you could always re-categorize!
         This'll be a great one though. House guest etiquette is something I know *I* would like to brush up on.

      Great food for thought. I have been giving thought to writing along the weekly inspiration recently. Good practice for freelance writing maybe. Writing assignment rather than inspriation only. I will give this topic some thought and work at coming up with something. Thanks

   Is it necessary to leave in place the original category that comes up when selecting "answer this question?"
   I found that "business" came up, and I forget the sub-categories,but I thought that "Social Issues" was more relevant....

      Feel free to re-categorize as you please, DzyMsLizzy! Most of the titles I researched fell under the "courtesy in business" umbrella, but for more general social themes, I agree that different topics would be better.

   I spent 10 years working in male dominated professions in California law enforcement before retirement.  It had to be the most rewarding job of my life, and I'm glad I took the chance to attend two academies.

      Great hub Arlene! I love the photo of your badge - I can certainly see why it is your most-prized possession. Plus, I think that single photo adds so much credibility to the entire hub since it was clearly written by a woman in the know.

         Thanks, k!  If you set goals and work to complete them, life is so sweet..  I really had some doubts about passing that first academy.  I was 34 at the time, and had all these kids around me who never held jobs in their lives.  Plus, my neighbor committed suicide with a .38 on the morning I left for academy, so the incident played with my head.  I flunked every range including use of the .38 until the very last day.  If you want something bad enough, and you work hard, you will get what you want.  Jeez!  TMI!  I lived a soap back then!

         Thank you, Simone!  I am so flattered by the comments I've been getting that I will treat myself to a breakfast of chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy!  I may even take hubby along!  Yeah, I know.  Rewarding yourself with food is not a good thing . . .

   Doggone it--my entry for this topic will be past the end of the week; we'll be into a new topic.
   We are dealing with the after effects of a power-surge, and my computer is in the shop for diagnostic testing....this backup machine doesn't have my drafts or my notes, so all I have is what I already pasted into capsules....and as sure as I 'make it up as I go along,' I'll later on find that I missed something important from my notes!
   I really, really do have a love/hate relationship with computers.

    I wrote a Hub today about children using manners.  How I taught my kids to use them and how wonderful it is to be out or with friends and my kids being so polite.  Manners are a must in my opinon.  Hope you enjoy my Hub!

       I appreciate parents who teach their children manners.  I am Auntie Arlene, and that's it for me.  I have a niece who is smart, beautiful and polite.  And in a group of teenagers, she shines because she knows how to behave in public.  I do wonder about the others.
