New Super Mario Brothers Wii Walkthrough: World 3

Updated on May 24, 2010

World 3-1

This is the first world where you can get a Penguin Suit.  You might as well use it on the chomping flowers that are two in a row.  If you jump on their frozen selves, you can get some extra coins.  You can then run with your Penguin suit and slide below two more chomper plants and get the First Star Coin

By the way, past this area is some floating brick blocks. If you hit one of them, a Bonus whatever will be revealed.

By the time you reach the Midway point, there is the Second Star Coin.  To get it, you need to jump to it with a Penguin Suit or Ice Flower.  There is a Chomper Flower that comes out of the pipe to the side.  Freeze it, and jump on the ice to get the coin.  Get back and take the green pipe to the final area.

In this final area, you can pretty much slide (if you want, there are some places where some jumps are required).  To this one blocked off area where the Penguin can go straight through.  Take a green pipe down to one level, and you can get the Third Star Coin with some tricky maneuvering.  Some say that you need to ice a penguin coming at you, jump on it, duck, and then leap at the right time to get the Star Coin.  I did it as tiny Mario and managed to just run and get it.

World 3-2

I really don’t like levels where these Bullet guys come after me, but it is inevitable.  Hopefully you will have an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit left over from the last level.

At the top of a tall pink tree will be the First Star Coin.  Getting it is as easy as jumping on the bullets.  I froze them into place, and it was much easier.

By the way, you’ll soon come to one of those Turtle guys who throw snowballs at you.  I found that you can freeze a bullet and toss it at him.  That is the easiest way to take him out, really.

I really hate dodging the bullets, and it makes it really hard.  You will see two ? blocks atop each other.  There is an Invulnerability Star there that you can use, and you probably should use it.

After the Midway point, you will see a green pipe in the midst of many cannons.  You will need to go into the green cannon spot, and go into another subterreanean area.  You will need an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit, and you have to freeze the bullets in mid-air, jump on them, freeze another, jump on it, until you reach the Second Star Coin on top.  Yes, it is hard.

You will see the Third Star Coin atop a high platform.  The best way I found to get to it was to leap from the platform to the left and use a bullet to bounce off of.  You can also freeze a bullet into place, and use it as a stepping stone.

From there, it’s just more dodging until the final flag.

World 3-3

Okay, I had a hard time with this level before, and it was very, very tricky.  However, you can get an extra life every time for the life you may or may not lose in the process.  It is located before that snow-ball throwing guy who you see before you go to the pipe.

Under the ground is tough, as you must go through a lot of stuff and dodge icicles.  I found that if you should just go underneath them fast, or stop before you get to them, let them fall, then go through.

You will see an area where a lot of Goombas are taking a dive.  There is a platform with a ? block right before it, and if you go underneath this ice, you can walk through it and get the First Star Coin

After that, I just jump to the other side, because I hate dealing with the Goombas.  From there, you can get a little bonus goodie and go up the pipe to the Midway point.

This area is much easier to play in a Penguin suit, and you should be able to get one with some ? boxes nearby.

You will eventually get to a place with one of those snow throwing guys.  Go ahead and take him out, and you should be able to get the Second Star Coin

Shortly thereafter, there is a place with four icicles.  Just above it is a hidden passage and you can jump there to find a green pipe to take you upward.  You will find a POW thing, and, when used, will cause all the coins to drop and eradicate the icicles as well.

Head back down and either penguins slide all the way to the end of this level or just go through it.

Now, this last part is kind of tricky.  What you have to do is grab the barrel, and it is the perfect shield for blocking all the icicles that fall.  Then, when you get to the end, hurl it at the Third Star Coin.  Unfortunately, that barrel may break, and it is difficult to go back and get it.  If you can, freeze the snowball guy and hurl his frozen cube to the coin.  I think that might work.  Of course, you will need an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit.

Go ahead and take the pipe to the last Flag.

World 3-Ghost House

The First Star Coin is easy to find, just turn and go to the left and get it.  Simple enough for you?

What is hard is getting through the Boos.  They will come at you if you have your back turned.  Look directly at them, and they are still.  That will get you a lot of jams.

Soon you will be climbing up a lot of poles.  On one section with four in a row, all the way to the left is another hidden wall.  This one will usually have coins sticking out of it to show that it is there.  Here is the Second Star Coin

When you get to the area with the horizontal rope, you have two options.  The first is going all the way to the right as much as you can.  This will eventually lead you to a door, located to the right and above a ghost door.

This will then take you to a place where you need to keep your eyes on the ghosts.  You have to shift your gaze back and forth to get them to stand still.  When you reach this particular place at the end, there is door that leads to the end of the level.

That, or you could take an alternate route.  This is done at the area with the horizontal rope.  Instead of going all the way to the right, there is an area below that is a light brown island below the rope.  There is a door there.  Taking the door will lead to another elevator shaft.  Now, the first time that the elevator plummets, go to the right side, and you will find the Third Star Coin

When you leave this world, you will find that a secret cannon to World Six has been revealed.

World 3-Fortress

The first thing that you have to do here is figure out how to use these spinning blocks in order to advance higher.  It isn’t too difficult.  When you get to the second spinning block, you need to just jump until you find this area in the upper right corner which will be a door to another area.  You will find a spinning block there with a spinning spiked ball.  Wall jump on the right side of this area and you can get the First Star Coin

Okay, you will now get to a level where a platform will rise, and you will be surrounded by Dry Bones.  There is a big Pow that you can use, but wait until you see at least eight Dry Bones above and below you.  Using it here will give more points.

It gets worse when spiked balls show up.  There is a Pow that must be used here, but wait until you get to the area with the white tiles.  Pick up the Pow and avoid the spiked balls, and when are enough tiles are free, go ahead and use the Pow.  You will have the Second Star Coin and there is a 1UP that side as well.  Yes, it is pretty tricky.

The Third Star Coin is also tricky to get.  After the Second one, there are two spinning blocks, and it is a little tricky to get up from them.  It is very hard to do the jump with the wall-kick in order to get under the blue tiles and get the star coin.  It is difficult, but not impossible.

From here, it is on to beating the bad guy.  By the way, to the left of the door is a place you can hit that will give you a power-up.  Keep searching for it, it is there.

Now, go on and take on the bad guy.  This time, the attacks are easier to deal with as the balls do nothing more than knock you backwards.  However, that could kill you if you are close to the edge.  You can wall-jump if you are that close to the edge.  Bouncing on the ball attacks can get you higher so you can eventually hit the villain on the head, as is your goal.

Of course, hitting him will become the spinning shell, and then you have to avoid it, hit him on the head again, etc.  You know the drill.

World 3-4

Okay, this is a world that you will probably need to play twice.  You will notice the dotted lines of what will be bricks, but you must hit a red switch on the map.  It is a switch that you won’t be able to access now.  Yes, that is pretty hard all right.

You should be able to get the First Star Coin in an area with the big turtle that throws fire balls.  You can grab an ice cube, and take him out while jumping to the moving ice platform below him.  Then you can just jump up to his level and get it.  Or you can freeze him.  I leave it up to you.  My point is it is easy to spot.

For the Second Star Coin, you will need to be on the area with the moving platform and the flying turtles.  This is just before the Midway point.  Anyway, there is this one area that you have to duck in order to get under, and in the middle is a hidden area.  This is where the star coin is found.

From then on, there is the difficult thing of the moving ice platforms.  During this time you will see a red pipe sticking out to the side, but you will not be able to get to it.  You will actually have to wait until you beat World 3-5, and then hit the Trigger switch I was referring to earlier.

You should be able to get the Third Star Coin after the ice cube conveyor and it is right underneath a fire turtle.  Perhaps you can ice him out and get the coin that way.

Once you have got to the end, defeat World 3-5, hit the red switch, then come back to take the secret passage I shared with you before.

World 3-5

First time you play, you will not have the red squares on.

You probably won’t be able to get the First Star Coin unless you have that propeller block that you will find as you enter this world.  Use it to get the Coin, and move on that rolling pink square.

Sadly, this is the only Star Coin you can get without the Red Blocks being turned on.  You should just concentrate on getting to the end of the level by taking the green pipe.

Come back once the Switch has been hit.  When the pink square hits its highest point, go ahead and jump on the red squares to get to a red pipe.  This pipe will eventually lead up to another spinning square, and you can get the Second Star Coin off to the right side.

Eventually you will come to a place with some flying turtles, and you should be able to get the Third Star Coin here.

Take this all the way up to the top, and you will come to a place with another flag.  Get it, and the gold mushroom house will be open to you.

Earlier I mentioned how you have to go to a certain place in World 3-4 after the Red bricks are turned on.  You need to go there now, and that will clear a map to the Castle.

World 3-Castle

Okay, there is nothing to do but take out the Dry Bones and get through this ice to a Green Tube.

Now, from here it becomes a matter of a moving sidewalk.  At one point there are some balls bouncing, and you can use them to get to the top for the First Star Coin and a lot of other coins.

After that, it is a Green pipe that will take you to an area where walking bombs will show up.  The key is to use them to blow up ice and things.  If you blow up one area, you can get to the Midway point.  You can also blow up an area to get the Second Star Coin

Once again, the platforms will start to move, and you will need to get on them and move with them.  You will eventually have the Third Star Coin in your way, and it is pretty easy to get.

Just before you get to the doorway for “The Final Conflict”, there is a green pipe.  If you take it, you will discover a land of bouncing balls and coins.  There is a ? block that will give you a power up of some type.  You will need it. I say, take the free one.

Eventually, you will be before the main bad guy.  You will be on the ice and that Penguin suit gives you better advantage.  You will have to bounce on the balls that it sends your way just to even come close to hitting him.    It is the same thing, though.  Just bounce on his head three times, then avoid the spinning shell, and repeat until dead.  Seems to be a pattern in this game.
