    Do you read in bed?

I like to read in bed, but I can only get about 2 pages in and my eyes are crossing. It makes me so sleepy. Not good for someone like me that just has to reach the next chapter before stopping!

Yes...if I am very tired I have trouble staying awake.  I have been known to read most of the night...if the book is that good, I truly can't put it down.

Oh, all the time! I usually read in bed in order to fall asleep faster, though if I feel really tired, I skip just in case because like you, I also need to finish a chapter before putting a book down. Or at least get to a break if there's one within the chapter I'm reading. But I'm usually always reading in bed or the couch.

I can't sleep at all without reading first! My preference is for a good half hour or more in a silent bedroom (I can't unwind if my hubby is still watching tv next to me). I try to remember to bring whatever book I'm reading up to bed with me, but I keep a pile of magazines on my nightstand for emergencies.

Yes, every single night. Mostly, I read humor. It helps me to calm down and get me in a happy frame of mind. I can stop this any time and start again the next day. Thrillers often keep me awake even if I am dead-tired.

I read in bed all the time.  Maybe that's why I don't sleep well!

I love to read, but cannot read in bed.  The den or living room works for me.

You need a brighter reading light then, or else you're starting to read when you're already too tired!  I read every night before bed, but some nights I'm too tired, so I don't even try!

I have tried countless times but sleep always ends my attempts. I seldom get further than a few pages before I'm gone. I have to be sitting up to read. In a comfortable chair with good lighting and in the proper mood I can read for several hours at a time....just not in bed.

All the time! Probably too much, but it's such an indulgence, especially on a lazy weekend morning.

I've read in bed since I could read. I find it difficult to go to sleep if I don't. Even if I've been 'entertaining', I still read afterwards to make me fall asleep.

I usually don't read in bed, but if it's one of those nights and I just can't fall asleep and I want to take stuff off my mind, then I get a book, usually one I've read, so that I know how it ends and I'm not curious to read it all in one go...

If you do it to help you fall asleep, well . . . but as you have seen, it is not a good practice otherwise.  I do it with my head propped too high, so its uncomfortable to fall asleep.

No I don't read in bed. My work involves a lot of reading so once I'm done working I usually am not looking to read anything else. My eyes need a rest. I can fall asleep quite easily without this.

I've heard that beds should be just for sex and sleeping, and that doing other things in bed confuses your mind about what your bed is for- throwing off your sex life and your sleeping habits. However, I admit that I'm guilty of reading in bed. It's one of my favorite things, along with sex and sleep, so why shouldn't I do it in my bed? I'm pretty good- able to read up to an hour and a half in bed, but I understand the feeling. Try sitting up in bed instead of laying down, and having an overhead light on (then you have to get up to turn it off and go to sleep) that works for me. Good luck!

True, reading in bed makes you sleepy, so I read before bedtime to help me fall asleep faster.

If I need to read something, usually for school, sitting up in a chair (or even on the couch) is usually best.

I read in bed and I read at the table and I read in my chair and I read in the car and I read and I read and I read.  About the only place I don't read is the bathroom which seems to set me apart from many Americans. smile

I read in bed every night.  It just seems right to end the day with a story.

Not now, but I used to. As a kid, I would read under the covers all night long and still go to school the next day. These days, I curl up on the couch. And I can stay up as late as I want; no need to hide my book under the blanket & read in bed.

I do all the time.  I do fall asleep a lot while doing so though.  Haha.  It's the most comfortable place to read.

No, I do not ever read in bed.

The only things I do in bed are sleep, watch TV and, er, one other thing.

I'm homeless, so I don't actually have a bed of my own. Well, I have one --- but it's been sitting in a storage locker since November of 2010.

But, when I get to use someone's  bed, I really can't fall asleep unless I do read in it. I love to have my little book light, so I can read wherever I am without bothering anybody else.

My mom and my grandma are both the same. We can't fall asleep at all without reading.

Cute picture of Marilyn, by the way. I've never seen it before --- and I'm sixty three years old, so I thought I'd seen all her pix by now.

I often read books and other related reading materials that I enjoy when I want to get relaxed. Reading a book before going to bed is good for you in many different ways. First, it helps to calm the nerves by eliminating excess sound and vision stimulus.

i love to read in bed whenever I am feeling lazy but prolonged reading in bed can be tough and all positions seems awkward. Facing up over long periods of time sometimes can feel like you're about to drop the book on your face (especially if you read thick books like Harry Potter in bed).

Nowadays I read with my iPad (ebooks) in bed but that can be a little tough as well. The tablet tends to slip sometimes. And its a little hard to find the right combination of light and backlight to read comfortably. Sometimes after a long day I find myself dozing off while reading. In essence reading in bed is a good way to unwind but I probably won't do it for anything longer than an hour.

Of course, sometimes I feel that I am tired and I can't sit on a chair. So, I lie on the bed and read. And, I don't think this is a bad idea as some people see.

I have a stack of books and magazines next to me bed so there is always something to read.  I try to stay away from the scary stuff at night, and I am a sucker for a story with a happy ending before I fall asleep.
