What can I use for a username on Reddit?

When I pick a username for Reddit, can I use my real name or should it be a cute/anonymous name so no one knows my real identity?

Thats up to you entirely. If you want people to know who you are in real life use your real life name. If not, then don't. Lots of people would rather have a made up/pen name type username for sites and games. No one needs to know who you are on reddit unless there your friends and you tell them yourself! But again, totally up to you.

But is it safe to let people know my real name? I write on Hub Pages under my real name and it's not a problem. Not sure if that's a good idea or not on Reddit but would also like to use it there. What do you think?

Like I said, its do whatever you think will be good for you. I personally don't send my real name out anywhere but facebook. Is it safe? Well it should be whats the worst that can happen? 58 others have my same name on facebook =P

Reddit is a termpermental site that has a habit of blocking people for the silliest reasons.  It also limits how much you can do at one time.  I have an account with my HP name and I have one with my real name but I only use the "real name" account in I can't get on the other one.

Okay, thanks. It's all new to me so I wasn't sure how it works.

I have discovered that if you want to promote your business or your writing, use a name that reflects that which you wish to promote.  I found this by accident when I tweeted as "Leftpawedpuppy" to match my children's ebook.  I get all kinds of pet stores and people interested in pets following me just because of the name!  That is a particular audience, although not the true audience I was looking for. BUT people interested in pets would be interested in buying my ebook for their children. When I was trying to promote an online solitaire game I invented for Academy Awards, I tweeted as Billiehollywood and that gave permission to throw out my link every once and a while and still not seem overly promotional.  "The Perfect Husband" was already taken for my app "The Perfect Husband App" so I tweeted as afewgoodwords which gets me no where.  So all, in all, I think using a name for your passion and goal is the best.  I looked at your hubs and you might want to go with khwriter since you write on a variety of topics or how about crusingmom.  I looked at names on reddit and when I saw "thecontributor" I wanted to read what this person contributed.  Plus, that's the only name I remember from 5 min. ago when I looked at several reddit names.

I would not use my real name there, mainly because IMHO Reddit is full of juvenile jerks. Also Reddit considers HubPages and Squidoo spam, so it's not much good for promotion.

The username you choose might reflect the personna you wish to convey or the kind of articles you write. Here's a site that lists several hundred cute usernames, sorted as to category: http://cuteusernames.blogspot.com/
Someone managed to accumulate a bunch of them. You have to scroll down quite a bit to see all of them. The names listed might suggest one or more you could fashion for yourself.
There are many such sites; Google "cute usernames" to see the listing.
