Bathroom TV

Updated on July 18, 2009

If you are thinking about remodeling your bathroom there are many upgrades you can include in your bathroom remodeling design that will make your bathroom really spectacular. One of those upgrades is the installation of a bathroom TV. Bathroom TVs are something that are becoming more and more popular in every type of household. At one time, people thought that a TV for the bathroom was specifically for the extravagant homes of sports heroes and movie stars. That is no longer the case. Putting a TV in the bathroom has become affordable and the bathroom TV installation has become easier and more creative. Soon a bathroom TV will be as common as a bathroom vanity unit. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to be able to relax in a bubble bath and watch your waterproof bathroom TV while you soak? Or try to imagine how your friends will react when they take a tour of your new home and they walk into your bathroom to find a bathroom LCD TV. A bathroom TV can make quite an impression.

The first major benefit of the bathroom TV is the luxurious look that it gives your bathroom. I remember watching a television show where you toured the homes of big music stars and I saw one rapper who had a TV mounted above a small bathroom sink. I thought it was the most extravagant and fantastic thing! A bathroom TV can be a status symbol. People will automatically think more of you if you have this luxury item in your home. Of course it is not necessary to have a TV in the bathroom, but it is also not necessary to have granite counter tops or leather seats in our cars. The nice thing about this luxury item is that it doesn’t have to be very expensive. You can buy a regular TV and a bathroom TV wall mount system and hang it so that it can easily be viewed from the bathtub. But, if you do not buy a waterproof bathroom TV you should be prepared for the possibility of water damage shortening the life of the TV.

Features That Make a TV Right for the Bathroom

A TV you are planning on mounting in your bathroom should have certain features so that it will be able to last and function properly in the bathroom environment. The main concern is water. First, water can get into the TV and cause damage so that it does not work properly. That is why it is important to purchase a waterproof bathroom TV. Waterproof TVs are sealed units that do not let any moisture in. They typically look like the TV is in a picture frame. You should try to make sure that the frame matches your bathroom set if you can so the decorating elements are uniform throughout your bathroom. There are no open vents or cracks that can let in damaging water. Second, every time you shower or run a hot bath, you produce steam and the steam will condense on all surfaces. If water condenses on the TV screen then it will becomes difficult to watch. A bathroom TV screen that is heated can help with this problem. The heated bathroom TV screen will keep water from condensing and you will be able to continue your TV watching without interruption.  Lastly, make sure that your remote is waterproof as well.  You will be handling the remote when you are in the water and you want to make sure you do not damage it.  Even though it is waterproof, you want to make sure that you store the remote somewhere like the vessel sink vanity when you are not using it.

Another interesting development in bathroom TVs is the bathroom mirror TV. This is a special mirror that looks like a regular mirror when the lights are bright. But, when you dim the lights and turn on the TV you can see through the glass of the mirror to the TV screen. The bathroom mirror TV is a way to use a regular television rather than a waterproof television. This is also a clever way to hide the technology when it is not in use. It works best when you have a double sink bathroom vanity so that the mirror is large enough to conceal a large TV.

Another feature that is important for any bathroom television is a waterproof remote. Even if you are using a normal TV, you should invest in a waterproof remote since you will probably be using the remote when your hands are wet and the possibility of dropping it in the water of the bathtub is large. Water can also be a problem for the speakers on the TV or the separate speakers you chose to install around your bathroom. Make sure that you get water resistant speakers whether they are attached to the television or mounted somewhere else in the bathroom. This will ensure that you get quality sound for a long time.

If you are having trouble deciding on which bathroom TV is right for you then you should check out bathroom TV reviews. These forums and publications can give you a good idea of which televisions worked well and held up in the harsh, wet bathroom environment and which did not. Also, some people will even comment on the picture quality and sound if that interests you.
