   Has an implied contract with the U.S. middle class been broken?  If so, suggest how to restore it.
   
   “There was a bargain in place for last 50 years that if you worked hard, you played by the rules, you helped increase productivity in America, you got a piece of the action.  You benefited.”  Do you agree with VP Biden?  Why or why not?  If you agree, did this implied contract strengthen America or turn it into a socialist country?  Why or why not?  Thanks.

   Seems like a lot of promises get broken. However by mentioning them , maybe there is a chance that embarressment might compell their creators to keep some of them. It is politically important for officials to try to please the middle class .

   I don't know what Biden said, however if you are quoting him I totally agree with him. I believe that implied contract motivated a people to build a mighty nation. It wasn't socialism it was Americanism. The enemy of Americanism is Capitalism.

   Humans are frequently selfish and greedy. Politicians are humans and if there's nothing in it for them, they will not vigorously fight to bring back norm of working hard, playing by the rules, and being rewarded for these efforts. Corporations are run by humans and created to bring the most profit at the expense of the consumer or even the communities in which they are located. Numerous corporations lobby politicians for their own benefit, often to the detriment of the middle class.
   
   One way that might re-ignite this old norm could be by individuals in the middle class by grabbing the reigns and turning this economy upside down by not being so consumptive. Consumption and debt are what ran this economy into the ground WITH the help of politicians. When the revenues fall for many of the corporations that lobby congress, only then would middle America have the attention of both.
   
   There are lots of non-necessities that make billions for CEO's and multi-national companies that lobby congress to give them corporate welfare. It may mean that some in the middle class would have to hoard their money instead of going out clubbing, taking the family on a vacation, spending money on cigarettes, or splurging on non-essentials but their bank account (and likely their future) would be more robust.
   
   If enough Americans did this, perhaps politicians and companies would be more willing to do whatever it took to earn the middle class's trust. Only after more people are able to earn a true living wage should middle America think about being more consumptive.
