Do you think the war on Ronald McDonald is appropriate?
According to a report by FoxNews & The Wall Street Journal, "More than 550 health professionals and organizations have signed a letter to McDonald's Corp. asking the maker of Happy Meals to stop marketing junk food to kids and retire Ronald McDonald." Do you think this is overkill or appropriate?
I think we need to be informed what is in our foods - but having said that, I think it is our business as parents if we want to occasionally treat our kids to a Happy Meal. It is sad that some people overfeed their kids and feed them crap all the time - but do we all have to pay for it? Does it require all of us to do without?
There is nothing wrong with an OCCASIONAL treat for kids, it won't curse their health - as with everything moderation is the key so yes, I think it is overkill.
What will our society look like when Ronald Mcdonald, and every other colorful, funny icon is outlawed. It won't be long before our world looks like the pages of "1984."
Overkill. Let the parents decide what they want to feed there kids. This is a country of supply and demand. if the parents don't buy then micky d's goes broke. Simple as that. its fine for health professionals to make a statement and they should, but they don't have a right to dictate what people can and can't eat.

Why is everything a "war on . . .", but anyway. Asking McDonalds to stop marketing junk food is like asking cigarette companies to stop marketing a product that is harmful to people's health. So if people want to ban Ronald McDonald for making kids unhealthy, why stop there. They should fight to either ban McDonalds completely or force them to become a seller of health food products. And while they are at it, they should go after every maker of unhealthy goods who ever markets to children.
If parents want to protect their kids from McDonalds, they shouldn't take them there. And I doubt that banning a freaky looking clown is going to make much of a difference anyway. My kids want to be taken to McDonalds, and they don't even know who the hell Ronald McDonald is. The simple fact is that people will find a way to eat unhealthy crap regardless of whatever bans people try to implement. Ultimately, we can't have a nanny state that tries to protect people from themselves.
Great question- I think McDonalds and particularly Ronald himself are just the scapegoat, just like our good friend Cookie Monster can no longer get his cookie fix. We can blame McDonalds all we want and sure they are not selling us anything healthy but it is not really their fault. As far as we know they aren't brainwashing the youth of America to buy Happy Meals. But people want easier answers, they don't want to hear that we need to teach our children about nutrition and make sure they are getting outside everyday to exercise. So the easiest thing is to mount an attack on Ronald.

It seems unfair to target only McDonald's. I think all advertising aimed at children should be banned, especially when the product is known to be harmful to their health.
When my kids were young, they loved fast food, but they only got it on a special occaision. Now that they are older, we make sure they have good healthy meals when they are home. It's about choices and being a parent. Not about eliminating all dangers so you don't have to do any parenting!

How do you find popular music for a child that is appropriate? While trying to download popular songs to my son's MP3 player I realized it's hard to find appropriate songs for a 9 year old. So how do I find music without all the inappropriate stuff that is still in style?

I recently heard a story about a woman who disciplines her kids with a spray bottle. She has a 3 year old son who has a bad temper. When he starts pitching fits, she sprays him with the water bottle to get him to start acting right. She says that it is the only thing that is...
