   How do you define a hero? What makes one a hero?
   
   Being a soldier fighting for your country, simple acts of kindness, being a good example, saving ones lives, what else?

   Someone who is good inside and out. who cares, loves and shares. someone who doesn't have to be perfect, who makes mistakes - but learns from them and tries to fix them.

   I true hero is someone who helps others without the need to receive any type of recognition or praise. This person is kind to people even though nobody is watching like "fans," "friends," "family," or "colleagues."

   It is a term that is extremely overused today, imho.
   I define a hero as someone who puts themselves in harms way to save others with full knowledge of the danger.
   An example of misuse was the female soldier who was captured by Iraq's when her vehicle got separated from her group.
   First she wasn't a combat soldier and wasn't supposed to be in contact with the enemy. She didn't willingly put herself in the position to be captured she was just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time,
   
   The first responders on 9/11 qualify, though I doubt any of them thought the towers could collapse the way they did they still knew that it was extremely dangerous and they went in knowing that the towers could come down on them.
   
   We have had so many incredible ones like the great Audie Murphy and countless other soldiers who we owe a debt we can never pay, our freedom and country came to us through their hands, through their sacrifice. Sadly many of them died in the act and passed with only a brief spark of recognition, just as many we never heard of at all.

   A hero to me is one does things without asking anything in return. Just helping people without question.

   Simply, anyone is a hero when they act to save a life even in the circumstance of the potential for adverse effects on themself or they incarcerate or end a life of one who has the potential to harm significant amount of innocent others if they indeed have free will.

   There could be many answers to the question but some everyday heroes are people--kids, teens, young adults, parents--who say no when everyone else is saying yes to unwise behaviors.

    A hero is someone who is unselfish in every respect. They are generous and even willing to risk what they have (including their life) in order to help others.
    
    Examples of heroes:
    
    Two people with exactly the same illness and discomforts. One incessantly complains and talks about their pain. The other jokes and talks to people, raising their spirits and never talks about their own problems unless asked, but even then they minimize them. The first person is a selfish whiner. The second person is a hero because of their generosity and humility.
    
    One person jumps off of a building so they will not be a burden to others. Another person jumps in front of a speeding truck in order to push aside and save someone else. The first person is a selfish murderer (suicide perpetrator). The second person is a hero because of their humble selflessness and generosity.
