    What are your thoughts about the case of Abu Qatada, who was deported from England to Jordan today?

    Abu Qatada was put on a plane to Jordan at 3.00 am today- British taxpayers paid over £1 million for his legal aid fees through many Court Appeals. .As his face showed through the porthole of the aeroplane carrying him back to Jordan I wonder what he was thinking.   Glad to leave as he seemed to hate us so much?  Grateful that British taxpayers supported his whole family for years with free education and housing? Hating our culture, why didn't he live somewhere more to his liking? As his lawyers have worked the system so well,can't they send his family back to Jordan (or anywhere but the UK)?

    My first thought is that the lawyers who bilked the taxpayers to a million pound tune should be brought up before the bar to answer questions about their ethics. My second thought is that the politicians who enacted the statutes requiring such support should be brought up before the voters to answer questions about their mentality.

      The lawyers did actually work within the law.  The UK is bound by the  Human Rights Act 1998,which gives effect to rights and freedoms guaranteed under the European Convention on Human Rights.UK signed this and were bound by the law, however awkward.

      It irks me that the UK government follows the Human Rights Convention slavishly when it comes to protecting terrorists, but when the EU forced Cyprus to breach the right to own property by stealing bank savings, they didn't even protest.
