   What are the main reasons that lower socioeconomic class parents in the United States are
   
   disrespected, reviled, and even hated by their children?  When I was growing up, attending elementary, high school and even college, many lower socioeconomic class children had very little or nothing good to say about their parents.  They considered their parents to be losers, totally unworthy of their love and respect and oftentimes treated their parents accordingly.

   That's sad to hear. If it is as widespread as you portend it reflects a society where money and socio-economic status is abbsolute king.

      I have seen such disrespect, even hatred first hand from a child until now.  Many poor children view their parents as abject losers, quite unworthy of their  respect.  They call their parents everything but a child of God.

   I don't think this is all about socioeconomic status.  Once children get a certain age, they hate their parents regardless of the status, especially in public.
   
   But it may also be that they are reflecting the value that society places on them.  So if they tell their friends their parent is a janitor, it is possible that their friends look down on that occupation, so they have to do it too, at least publicly.

      I knew many poor girls at my high school who indicated that their parents were totally subpar.  They talked about their parents like dogs.  They indicated to other classmates that they didn't care about them in the least.

   poor parents are not very caring in some cases.poverty chills emotions. sending your children to schools where most of other kids are of higher socioeconomic background also makes children look down on their parents.the 3rd reason could be that if you have mistreated your parents your children will definitely mistreat you.

      Great, analytical answer.  Poor parents are indeed uncaring, thoughtless, & quite selfish as far as their children are concerned. Children see this and return the favor to their parents.  Why should they love such parents?

   Many poor children see their parents as unable to provide a decent standard of living.  Many have to endure a childhood of want and penury.  In their eyes, their parents are abject failures and poor examples/role models as to what it means to be a parent. 
   
   Children are smart people, they know when parents are missing the mark.  Poor children see their parents as socioeconomically unworthy as parents and therefore missing the parental mark.  Because of their parents, such children view their socioeconomic situation as precarious, unstable, and highly tenuous.  As a result of such favors, these children view their parents' authority as questionable thus they feel that they have the right to disrespect their parents. 
   
   They maintain that their parents' status as the bottom tier of society warrant their disrespect, even derision. Also, some of them are working to supplement family income via afterschool and/or weekend jobs.  This puts them in adult and responsible roles early.  They maintain that since they have adult roles, why have respect for their parents as they also have breadwinning roles in the family. They are of the school that if their parents were worthwhile, the latter would be able to support them in a substantial style. They also view their parents as negative people, people who they DEFINITELY DON'T want to be like ever!

   Your blanket statements about people and utter disdain for anyone "beneath" you socioeconomically is baffling. I have to wonder if despite your means, perhaps you haven't been loved unconditionally enough and that's what causes you to place so much value solely on the material. 
   
   I have known plenty of "rich" parents who are absent and pay the nanny to take care of the kids.  I've also known working class parents who weren't good.  Bad parents are to be found in any socioeconomic background.  It isn't just us peasants tainting the Earth with our presence.
   
   In fact, as a poor college student; I was a nanny for a rich family, but I guess all their money and ability to buy needless crap for their kids made them better parents than I've managed to be with my more meager means.  They were never around and always chasing their careers, but as long as they had plenty of money who cares?
   
   I thought my support, love and dedication to raise decent human beings was enough - but I guess without a mansion and a yacht I'm doomed to failure as a human and a parent.
   
   Despite my failure to be rich enough, my children still love and respect me even though I'm not flying on my private jet all over the world.  I don't know when or why you came to have such a blatant bias for everyone you deem beneath you in society, but your questions like this are bordering on offensive.

      I am not rich but just solidly middle class. As a child/teen/young adult in school/college, I heard poor children speak derisively about their parents. They felt that their parents were losers and unworthy.
