Oh boo hoo, the drug addicts, the alcoholics.  Why stop there.  What about the paraplegics, the mentally retarded?

The only way up is to push someone down.  Heroin exists because it makes a few people rich.  The system that allows that transaction is at fault and has countless flaws that have been ignored, excused, painted over and re marketed.  How about all the money given to a two party political system to convince its constituents that they live in a democracy?  How about the landlords with more houses than 3rd cousins and beyond.  Nobody needs two houses or 10 or so on.  Nobody needs most of what they want.  You might want a plasma and a share portfolio and the junkie might want a fix.  So what.  Get over yourselves.  Try giving a sandwich to a homeless person.  It won't kill you.

If someone can afford 10 houses and want them, that's their business. If someone can afford 10 houses but buys 3 and gives a big sack 'o cash to charity, that's also their business. Neither one absolves junkies of personal responsibility anymore than the moral standing of their dealer does.

One who would make the opening statement(not the author) obviously doesn't understand the topic.

Draining our society of what? Drugs and alcohol?

Why are drugs and alcohol so attractive? Because our society is stressful, harsh, and nasty and people tend to have no compassion whatsoever.

Better society = Few drug addicts & alcoholics.

Or, as has been mentioned already, we could just exterminate anyone who doesn't generate money. Humanoid ATMs is what we want. Everyone else can just die.

Yeah that'll make it all better.

When it comes to drug abuse the real burden on the system is the way our society attempts to deal with the problem.Mandatory sentancing and harsher penalties have overloaded our legal system and insure vast profits for drug dealers.Substance abuse is a public health concern.Incarceration is vastly more expensive than treatment.

And about as effective, but it keeps the druggies away from society.

Okay, now I wonder how many people actually decided to SEE where this thread was posted?

Politics and social issues - Europe - United Kingdom?

Sorry, I'm American born and raised. If you feel this is happening in your society and you wanted to share, then I commend you on voicing your opinion.

I could look at it from another perspective, but that one is most likely not one you are to agree with either. So, I'll leave it at this.

    Enjoy.

Eh, just a comment. I don't have an answer for it, but I'm sure if I were a hubber on some of the other threads, my idea would be the ONLY correct one. lol
