   Why do Texans have so much state pride?
   
   I lived in Texas for a few years and I have known quite a few Texans in my lifetime. In fact, I have family that lives there now. Texas is a beautiful state in some ways, but each state has its own sort of natural beauty. So I am curious, why do Texans seem to have so much pride about their state. What is at the root of this state pride; what are the its origins? Personally, I have never noticed it anywhere else I have lived.

   Not sure, but we deserve it.  We've got lots to be proud of, music, unique food, great authors, unique history, scenic beauty, tons of ethnic and cultural diversity that is all one larger Texas culture.
   
   ....just so long as I don't have to hear my horrific accent played back to me on a message or anything....

   In my opinion it's mostly because a lot of people from other states look down on us. It probably doesn't hurt that we fought and won a war with Mexico less than 200 years ago (as lucky a victory as it may have been).

   I did not spend enough time in Texas while on a road trip about a year ago, and I hope to return.  I'm from California, but Texans do it big, and they have a lot to be proud of.  For one thing, there are loads of beautiful women from Texas, and you know plenty of beauty queens, models and actresses are from there.  Double for the men!  I can't say all men from Texas are cowboys, but I had a field day looking at all these attractive men while in Texas.  Maybe it's in the water, the clean air or those yellow flowers in Amarillo.  Those are flowers, aren't they???

   WIth Jest. Maybe because they are stuck in the middle. not taking sides, they develop pride. Another thought I have always played with is they are really a bunch of rebels turning taxes into Texas. The interesting part is that it was a bunch of Kentuckians, Tennessians, and a few from Louisana, which may have fueled the ember of pride. It was Davey Crocket, (shared by MissOlive) who cried in the House of Representatives - "to hell with y'all, I'm going to Texas." Sounds pretty prideful before even setting foot there.
   
   But the truth to the matter is sports is the key. More to do with football than baseball, but civic pride amonst small towns seems to gush like an oil rig, unified under being state champ.
   
   I don't have the answer. My dad's side of the family are from Rosebud and then mirgrated to College Station. Aggies pure and true - there is another story on pride there and with those Long Horns too.

   Because ignorance is bliss. If you're insulated, you have a skewed view of the world and an undeserved sense of self worth.

   I think that there is an endearing spirit in the Texas people... They were really left to their own as the US expanded and that means that they had to rely on themselves because nobody was coming to bail them out. It is that survivalist mentality that becomes ingrained into the basic code there... and when you have yourself to thank.. what you build becomes awesome... I mean that in a good way...

   As a Texan I think it relates to the original Texas...not really a part of U.S. and not a part of Mexico. Texans had to fend for themselves.
