   I think good memories do bring the most pain, cause you never really think about the bad time when some dies or goes away you always think about the good memories. and the good memories are what makes you want to cry cause you miss that person so much that it hurts. Bad memories are easily forgotten once the person is gone.

   Definitely the bad memories have caused me more pain.
   
   I must admit though, the good ones I've had, made me wish I could get those lost moments back for sure, like that of my mother prior to her passing away, as well as so many other good memories.

   Bad memories for me more often cause anger in place of the pain. The good memories cause a bit of both. If all is well, I can look back at good memories and smile. However, if all is not well, such as a past lover or family quarrel, the good memories hurt because there is no making of more memories. Those good times of the past were like promises of a brighter, happier future. When they are ripped away, such as the case of a sudden breakup or a death, they are devastating; far more than bad memories. It takes a lot of time and healing before the good memories can go back to being just that. In other words, when the good memories do bring pain, it is much worse than the bad memories.

   I would have to say bad memories would bring someone pain. That's probably the reason why most people would not want to have these bad thoughts, not to relive a bad experience .Good memories are just what they are, good. I personally prefer to recall good memories for the purpose of pleasure and think only of bad memories as learning experiences.

   I say hands down . . . good memories bring more pain.  As several have already answered, the pain from good memories comes when they are associated with some particular loss we have experienced.  Memories of my mother now gone ~ why do I seem only to remember the good in her?  I don't recall her faults and flaws, though surely she had them, being human.
   
   I have amazing memories from a much-loved lover.  But I cry the most bitter tears over those memories.  They bring me the most pain.

   I would say bad memories arouse my anger and the feeling of powerlessness. Some good memories make me sad, because it is only memories and no longer to be enjoyed. Anger, sadness, the feeling of powerlessness and all other emotions involved (and not mentioned), make me feels uncomfortable... not contented.... The intensity of the uncomfortable feeling determine the level of pain. When I remember my dad, who had died 22 years ago - good memories - my sadness is painful. Even when I smile, remembering a funny thing he has done, pain in my heart will force me to focus on something else.

   I think the good memories are worse for me right now. If I could only remember the bad memories of my ten-year marriage, I wouldn't find it so painful to move forward and start again. Instead, I remember how hard and long we loved, how passionate the love was, and how much we laughed. It is the good memories that cause me to tear up at a Hallmark commercial or reject someone asking me out because I don't think he will measure up. If only I could remember more of the bad memories...moving on would be easier. So I am definitely on the side of the good memories being the more painful.

   Its not the Good memory that causes the pain per-say; it is realizing that; that time has past, that causes the pain for me.
   
   Bad memories were designed to be forgiven and let fade away, but the good ones are meant to be eternal and the devil wishes that you will forget; that you are an eternal being, for you were designed this way.

    Good ones cause me more pain because I never hang on to bad ones. Good ones remembering loved ones who are no longer here. Of course it is wonderful to think of them but at times it is painful also. Why wouldn't it be, missing what can never be again?

    For me good memories are more painful than the bad one.  Because we never think or want to remember bad memories so we can easily forget them. But the quality of time or the happiest moment of our life which we spend with our love one's in our past and when we trying to remember those time then it is much more painful and we can not forget those good memories for ever in our life long.
    
    So for me good memories are more painful than the bad ones.

    I think bad memories are an experience to learn from. Good memories are the ones that hurt you so much, cause you only get to have them once before they become a memories. To bad life doesn't have a rewind  pause  fast forward  button isn't it.
