Why do CFL bulbs do not give as much light as ordinary fluroscent tubelights?
Even when the wattage is the same for both.
For example, a 40 watt tube light gives more light than a CFL having an output rating of 40 watts. Somehow the light of the tubelight is much brighter.
Its the same both are 40W just that a tube light gives a cylindrical wave front and hence spreads better. A normal CFL is smaller and gives a smaller wave front. It's more intense though at the points it reaches
Silly question. Wattage refers to electrical power usage, not brightness. Look at the "lumens." Lumens are a light output measurement unit. When CFL bulbs say "40 watts," what that really means is that the bulb has the same light output as a 40 watt incandescent. CFL bulbs actually are in the 10-15 watt range, yet have the same light output as 40, 60, or 100 watt incandescents.
To me it appears the difference in the degree of radiation of light due to difference in the materials of CFL bulbs and Fluorescent tube.
The power of a bulb is the electrical power consumed by the bulb and and not the light output. However, the efficiency of CFL bulbs as compared to ordinary florescent bulbs should be roughly equivalent, so the total light output of a 40W CFL bulb should be about the same as a 40W fluorescent tubelight. But efficiencies do vary between different manufacturers and different ballasts, which probably accounts for the difference in light output that you are experiencing.

Anyone else think this light bulb ban is BS?The new energy efficient light bulbs (Them ugly spiral things) make my husband get horrible migraines and make me dizzy and sick to my stomach. They just put them in at work and he has been sick since. Why are they outlawing safe bulbs for ones that hurt...

Have you tried out an LED light bulb yet?If so, what brand and wattage equivalent was it? How would you rate its light output on a scale of 1 to 10?
