Hello, Hello interviews Veronica Allen
A busy mother finds writing a great stress reliever
1) How did you find HubPages?
I found HubPages while I was browsing through the Internet one day. I've written for other sites before, but I loved the format of this site.
2) What made you decide to write in general?
I've always had a desire to write. I'm a pretty quiet person and writing has always been a great outlet for me. However, it was a close friend of mine that encouraged me to turn my desire into a way of making a small income on the side.
3) Do you write for others?
Yes, I do write for other sites. I've written for Helium before, and I currently write for Textbroker.com. I do however try to keep my eyes and ears open to other writing sites that offer a way to make some income for a busy stay-at-home mother as myself.
4) You are a stay-at-home-schooling mum - Does that mean you teach your child or children at home?
Yes, I have two girls and I teach both of them at home. I've been homeschooling the eldest since she could sit up and pay attention, and I've done the same with the youngest. In order to add a little more structure to our homeschooling curriculum, I've just enrolled the eldest in an online homeschooling program that is funded by the state of Georgia's public school system.
5) How do you find the wide variety of subjects and especially advice?
Since I homeschool my two girls, I'm definitely forced to do a lot of research. The library is my favorite place to get the majority of my information, as well as periodicals, news events, and a lot of the advice I've received from family members. Personal experience has also been a great inspiration behind a lot of my writings.
6) How do you find all these free or low-cost family activities?
The majority of these free or low-cost family activities were activities my own mother used to do with my siblings and myself when we were growing up. Talk about frugal - my mother was and still is the "queen of frugality." I keep abreast of the other activities by reading the Accent section in my local newspaper, watching local television stations that inform the locals about what's going on in the city, visiting my local library, as well as signing up for on-line newsletters.
7) How do you cope with you little girl's eczema?
It has been a challenge, but I have a very supportive husband, and I pray a lot. Fortunately, my daughter has a great allergist that I work close with, and by following a strict diet, incorporating a good skincare regimen, as well as providing an environment that's as toxic free as possible, we've been able to keep her eczema under control with as little medicine as possible.
8) You seem very busy. How do you find time to write?
I definitely have to make a schedule. I home-school the girls in the morning, and around 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. I'll write a little. Once my girls go to bed, then I write for about four more hours. I suffer from insomnia as well, so when I'm not able to sleep then I write.
9) Is that you little girl in the picture?
Yes, that's my youngest. She was a couple a months old then. Everyone used to think she was a baby-doll when I went out with her.
10) You've been with HubPages for six months now. How has your time here been so far?
My time here has been great. I've gotten to know so many great Hubbers. In addition, I've been able to hone my writing skills and have found a positive outlet to release some of the stress from my everyday activities. Often times, it's all about the kids and the husband, so writing allows for "mommy-time."
