A crisp, clean look

HubPages Gets a My Account Makeover

We hope you enjoy the new way we've organized it!

If you logged in this week, chances are you have noticed that My Account has a new look!  We re-designed this section of the site to make it easier to navigate, convenient, and more visually appealing.

Some key differrences between the new and old My Account are as follows:

  • The look is different: Gone is the large directory of links at the top of the page!
  • Navigation is different: Only top categories are displayed up top; sub-cateogories are displayed in a sidebar to the left of the page, saving space.
  • Features have been streamlined: You'll notice that some redundancy and superfluous fields have been removed- especially in the Profile section.
  • Security questions have been added: To augment the security of your account on HubPages- you will now be prompted to enter, then occasionally answer, three different security questions.

If you have not already done so, have a look at the new layout and take this change as an opportunity to update your account informaiton (more on that in the Pro Tips section of the Newsletter!).

I hope you're happy with the change!

Time to freshen up your HubPages account!

HubPages PSA: Update Your Account Information!

The change of My Account is somewhat like a change of seasons - hence it is time for a metaphorical Spring Cleaning!

Here are four quick things you should consider updating on your HubPages account:

  • Security Questions: When you visit the new My Account section on HubPages for the first time, you'll be prompted to enter in three security questions.  This feature has been created to add extra security to your account, so we recommend setting those straight away.
  • Password: While we're on the subject of security, it never hurts to change your password from time to time; yes, it is something new to remember, but better safe than sorry!
  • Avatar: Writing without an avatar on HubPages is like walking through the streets naked!  If you don't have an avatar, add one (it doesn't have to be you; it could be just a nice photo you took of a field, pet, or yummy grilled cheese sandwich!), and if you already have an avatar, consider updating it (especially if your online image has changed, the original avatar looks grainy, or you just want to add a fresh flare to your profile).
  • Bio: Your bio is an extremely important part of your profile in HubPages, so we recommend putting some careful thought into it.  DO include links to other social media feeds of yours (e.g. Twitter, LinkedIn, a blog...); DON'T write your life's story or so much that one has to scroll down for miles before they find your Hubs (they should be able to see them without scrolling down) or so many links that you end up looking like a spammer.

Aside from simply updating your account, take some time to poke around the various features My Account has to offer.  You may be quite impressed! From exhaustive stats to feedback reports from your readers to fun community features, you'll certainly not run short on excellent insights and discoveries.

Sweetsusieg Interviews LillyGrillzit

Words from a passionate writer, explorer, and environmental advocate

1. What has been your BEST moment as a writer, thus far?

When my writer's persona, LillyGrillzit was created. As you may know by reading my Hubs, getting parts of (Lilly's) my life has been unique and interesting. I love Lilly because she writes about me, while shielding my identity. Er, I didn't just give it away did I? Understand that truth is stranger than fiction, this fictional person was needed to help me create story, magic and freedom.

2. Do you consider yourself an 'Artist who uses words as a medium' or a 'Writer who paints pictures with words'?

Writer. Always, my hope is that the words I have been lucky enough to weave together may reach across divides of human beings. I hope I am bringing something positive, teaching, or simply imparting information.

3. We all have 'works' that are near and dear to our Hearts, What is the favorite Hub that you have written? Why?

Dear President Obama, Please Free Political Prisoner, Leonard Peltier. This Hub has given hope to many Native Americans. It has helped raise an awareness of injustice that must be addressed; the past and continued treatment of The People. The modern day embodiment for that injustice cries out in Leonard Peltier's case. I am honored to use my gift of writing to help The People.

4. I understand from reading your Bio that you are seriously involved in protecting the environment. What prompted that particular activism as opposed to other issues?

I guess you could say I leaned toward the tree-hugger movement when I was really young. I like trees! I have taken about 2000 photos of the trees in my yard in the last 90 days. When I was young, in Los Angeles, California, our skies were full of lead and our waterways were so toxic they would catch on fire. It was not Earth friendly. Back then, I was worried about the destruction of Planet Earth. I loved Foxfire books, and Mother Earth News, mountains, and beaches. Social justice runs close second because often the two issues run together. Environmental toxins are dumped in the poorest countries, states, cities, towns.

5. California was your home, but Arkansas captured your heart. Could you explain how that happened?

An Arkansan captured my heart! I was 15, we met me in a bar, and he was the first male who dared beat me on a pool table. He had long hair, a county accent, and hitchhiked across the US with a wolf. He was Hot! We lived together a while, got married and took a 2000 mile road trip down Needles Hwy, to Hwy 7 North, right below Booger Hollow, to the foot of the Ozark mountains.

6. In 3 sentences or less: If you were given a moment in time where the whole world stopped to listen, what would you say?

Slow down. Family and loved ones are more important than gold. What happens to Earth happens to us all.

7. If you could travel back in time and change one thing in your life, would you? What would it be?

No. Everything happens for a reason, and there is always the stuff-happens rule, or The Butterfly Effect (2004). The only worlds I will tinker with are the fictional ones.

8. You have picked yourself up by your boot straps on more than one occasion, have come out a better person for it. What is your secret?

I hope so. I come across sometimes as so good, but I have plenty of issues and am very fallible.

Secret? Wild angels are on the top of the list. I have survived many things out of stubbornness. Tell me it is impossible, and I am in. Going on, I knew I had people depending on me to make it, and later I realized I need be an example to others.

I want to see what happens next. Sometimes I want to keep my eyes closed like in the scary movies, but I do want to be in the middle of the next thing that occurs.

9. Lastly - I've been dying to know. Why the name LillyGrillzit?

Ha, ha, ha. Susan, here it is: I love to cook, and am good at it. For one or five hundred. Lilly is like a twin- she seemed to arrive as if she had been waiting. Add to that my being a researcher and a hound-dog when it comes to tracking on the internet as an arm chair detective.  Grillzit, can be food or facts. LillyGrillzit takes nothing at face value, she must suss it out for herself.
