This is an act of dominance.  You need to let your dog know, beyond all doubt, that YOU are in charge.  Whenever you see this behavior, you must physically pull the dog off, grabbing him/her by the scruff of the neck as you do.  This elicits an instinctual reaction, tracing back to when mother dogs would carry the pups around.  By doing this, you place yourself in that authoritative role.  It may take a while, but they will stop.

My female pit/rottie mix(rest her soul) was notorious for this, even after being spayed.  I found "Bitter Apple Spray" to be effective for a # of behavior issues. In the 13 years I had her I had the same bottle I bought while she was a puppy.  It became so conditioned that she better "quit it" that all i had to do was hold the bottle in my hand, not even spray it. And she would lay down, defeated.

I researched and wrote a piece about this Dog Behavior, Embarrassing Humping.  You can read it on my website.  Since you already follow me you should be able to find it.  I don't  want to break any rules.

We like to solve the problem before it starts. My husband takes our dog for a good run before guests come. Contrary to popular belief it is not always an act of dominance but of sheer excitement. He is a Border Collie and so he has an abundance of energy that requires being burned off. A good run and he's ready to meet new friends, without being overly excited. Cool, calm, and ready for a nap. That's leaves no room for "humping".
