They often do this if you are viewed as a sibling or pack member, not the leader. Most cats do this as a form of rough play as they would do with their brothers and sisters. Also, most cats view themselves as leaders, unlike dogs, where most dogs know their place. Cats prefer to be in control and view everything, including you, as their own.
