Has your dog ever had a hematoma in the ear lobe and what did you do about it?

My dog has one and we are pretty sure it was caused by a frisbee that hit her ear while she was playing catch with it.  She may have scratched it too, causing it to swell with blood and fluid.  She is not in pain but her ear hangs over and it looks a bit uncomfortable. Surgery is an option but I don't like the sound of it after reading about it.   Another is to just allow the fluid to reabsorb which can take weeks and may cause her ear to look funny afterwards.  Have you ever encountered this?  I would like to hear some experiences.

How big is it? As a former Vet Tech, we would just make two cuts and put straw-like tubing in, that's if it's a large one (I've seen some the size of a softball. If it's smaller than a golf ball, so long as you have proper sanitary products, you could drain it yourself. If you could stomach it. That, of course, is only if you are absolutely sure it's a hematoma and not an abscess.

It is a little smaller than a golfball and it is now starting to go down some.  I actually drained it some, but the syringe I had was small and did not do the job.  It doesn't seem to be bothering her at all. Thanks for the advice.

Yea it's no fun. I've had to drain more than I can count on both hands; of all sizes too. So, if it's draining and going down in size, now all you have to worry about it preventing infection! Soap & water and Peroxide if needed.
