    Scared dog

    my sons staff comes too my home  twice a week  and has been doing this for a long time  when he comes in he greets me all over me then he  hides under the bed and shakes and even goes on the veranda  which hi is never done before  its freaking me and my son out  s the dog  cowers and wont eat the treats  and hides  but from what? he  has only been doing it  for about 4 weeks  but for years previous  he was ok nothing has changed in my flat? so scared is the dog

    It would appear as though something in your apartment has changed. How old is the dog? Does he act scared when not at your apartment? Have you had other animals in your apartment? Have you changed cleaning chemicals? Have you had new friends in the apartment? Did you spill something on a carpet that the dog can still smell?
    The only time one of my dogs got scared and shook and hid was once when I got really mad. I wasn't mad at him but my mood was foul. When I noticed he was shaking I called the vet. After talking for a few minutes the vet told me to calm down because the dog was reacting to my mood. I did and he calmed down. I never let myself get that angry around any of my animals again.

    Distract the dog instead of consoling it. Creating "safe spaces" and overly pitying make them MORE afraid, less able to cope. Same is true of pets and people in that regard.
