What caused a stiff left hind leg in my six year old mini-horse?
When I let her out into the paddock she had this stiffness as if she was laying on it and it fell sleep, she stumbled quite a bit trying to walk with three legs and then within minutes it loosened up. Does anyone know what could have caused this or if it's something that needs immediate attention? She has been fine all day since.
There are a few diffent things that can cause a stiff leg. One is an old injury.
A possible infection. check for heat all down the leg. Check the hoof undrside for soft tissue when you clean the hoofs. There could be a crack running up the hoof outside causing pain. If thats the case then you'll need to support it till it heals. Smell can also mean infection in the hoof, causing pain in the leg. some also get arthritis. I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for your answer. It has me bewildered. The furrier was just here and said everything looks good, but this happened to her yesterday and then I saw her all day walking fine even ran well. Then this morning, I was concerned I would have the same problem, maybe the leg tightened up again, but it was fine. So I think that was good news. I'll keep an eye on her and check her like you suggested. Thanks Again!

Are people born with eczema or is it something that can just develop from out of nowhere?
