I love opals and turquoise in jewelry pieces. I also have some loose stones that I just like snowflake obsidian, jade and lapis lazuli. I find so many stones to be beautiful.
In Malta and Gozo we have no natural resources, like Gas, oil, precious stones, etc. I hope that you have heard of Gozo or of Malta at least
We have clay which is good for sculpture but needs to be cleaned first. We have hardstone which is crushed and used in concrete. Formerly in olden times it was used for the building of rubble walls in order to protect the soil from being carried away from the fields (denudation) and also to separate one field from another.
My favourite stone is the soft stone, called the 'globegerina limestone'. This is found in great quantities both in Gozo and in Malta and is cut from quarries. It is cut in slabs 20 inches x 9 x 11 and used in construction and for the building of houses. This soft stone is good for carving and I have just finished a small figurine - a nude lady, kneeling and holding a pitcher in her hands. This is my first attempt at stone carving so it's not a master-piece, but at least I succeeded in finishing it to my 'satisfaction'.
To view the 'nude' statue and perhaps leave me a comment, scroll down to the bottom of this page......http://www.gozo-malta-reality-tour.com/Gozo-hobbies.html
When I'm being a rock hound, I'm thrilled to find chert. I appreciate its waxy feel and the way it fractures. It's no wonder it was great for tools and arrowheads! Since I love silver jewelry, my favorite semi-precious stone would be chalcedony- esp. earth- toned varieties like jasper. My precious gem preferences are diamonds and emeralds. For sculpture, I prefer quality soapstone and emperador marble.
As an Arizona girl, most of the time I decorate me with southwest Turquoise.
I love sapphires. My eyes are blue, I love the blue ocean and my wedding rings is made out of them!
Chinese Jade, especially the green. Lots of artistic works and jewelries are made from it, and could be priceless.
I love the beautiful Jade shades of green too.
Diamond of course. I am a stone lover and can appreciate many kinds of stones.
Purple has been my favorite color since I was a young girl. Read this hub to learn about the color's meaning and the importance of having purple energy in our lives. read more
By far, my favorite stone is Garnet. My favorite color is Red, so I love the deep brilliant shade of red that garnet has and it goes with almost everything.

What is your favorite stone and why?My personal favorite is Opal. I love the rainbow effect and how the stones pick up the light. I also just love the energy of that particular stone. It happens to be my birthstone also, but even if it wasn't I would love them.
