Do you consider photography to be an art form?

Some people don't.  Others do.  I would like to hear from you.

    Of course.
Though it is very hard to define 'art', it usually is something that provokes an emotional response, a complex set of thoughts , or a strong feeling.
Paintings, sculpture, photos and other creations can all do this.

That brings back memories.  Once I had the question posed to me "When does an idea become art."  They were not looking for an answer.  I still don't know how to answer it; but, you know when you see it..

I didn't for a long time, until I found out how hard it was to get truly beautiful shots even in beautiful surroundings. IT's definitely something that takes talent and I would love to learn the trade.

The first step is to pick up a camera and take that picture.  It helps to have someone guide you along the way though.

Yes, I do.  Not so much the taking of a technical correct picture - but rather the unique perspective that each photographer brings to the photo.  I do hate to see too much photo shopping of photos because a good photograph does not need all that tweaking.  A good photograph stand on its own merit.

I know what you mean.  People go crazy with Photoshop.  I have to admit it is fun to do.  Even if you use film, it is still possible to manually manipulate images.  It is just not as easy to do,as digital manipulation.

Absolutely, some people are amazing at it, you can give same camera to two different people to take a picture of a same object, one picture might turn out as art, another not so much...

I find it interesting comparing two pictures taken by different people of the same thing.  Occasionally, you cannot tell that it is the same object.

Yes of course! The thought and creativity involved is just like that of other art forms.

Definitely. First you have to see the shot in your mind... then you have to get the camera to execute it.

Definitely, and one of the greatest. Some of our photographers ,past and present, are the world's finest artists and provide a road map to display our world around us. It is so gratifying to compare older life styles with newer ones and see the changes and why some meant so much to so many. Thanks for this question. whonu

It is such a new art. Not much over one hundred years old,  I think it is one of the things bringing the world together.

Yes. It is not only picking up the camera and snapping the shot. In other words a photographer acts as an editor. He or she decides what to include and what to exclude from the scene, thus adding his/her own interpretation.

Of course it is, the camera is just a tool, just like a paintbrush in the hand of a painter, you have your vision in your head before you take a shot and sometimes you see something and suddenly your vision comes afterwards....you have to have artistic mind to take artistic photos, mind you though not all photography I would consider artistic...

But then it is like with everything, you can writing shopping list or a poem, both are writings but only one of these writings is considered to be an art form:)
