Women are less able to handle a crisis situation?
Some people believe that women can be in positions of authority but it is not a good idea in "general" to let them handle a crisis since they are generally known to use their emotional side rather than logic when making decisions as opposed to strong men who tend to have a greater ability to "reason" in these difficult situations. Is this true?
I know of one case where it is not true. Margaret Thatcher is an example of a woman who survived an assassination attempt in 1984. She was known to be the Iron Lady. She had to make a decision to start the Falklands War and her popularity increased which led her to be re-elected as a conservative prime minister. She was a prime minister who was respected for having an ability to handle a crisis. Margaret Thatcher also remained tough when her popularity waned (crisis) during recession.
In my experience, women in general are actually better at handling a crisis situation. Being able to react from the emotional side also means you're able to react from the intuitive and/or instinctual side, allowing for fast and accurate action. Women are also much better-known for being able to look at the big-picture view of a situation and make decisions based on all of the contributing factors, not just what's in front of their faces. But then, it may also depend on the type of crisis -- most of the ones I've personally witnessed have been medical crises, and when someone is bleeding out with multiple bullet wounds, it's usually the women who respond the best. There are a few exceptions, but some of that is also the bias of selection -- usually when male nurses or surgical techs are able to make it far at all in their jobs, it's because they're darn good at what they do.
In my own experience, the intelligent women are just as able in high pressure situations as intelligent men are. They're really the ones you want in charge anyway. However, for average or less than average intelligence, I've noticed that the women usually turn to the men. It also depends on the personalities of the women and men.
Every person, man or woman, is different. I think it depends, not on gender, but on the stuff the particular person is made of. Remember women give birth, there is no greater pain, nor crisis that the human body can go through. We are generally a lot tougher than we get credit for.
