Which top 10 writing sites are the most profitable for writing, backlinking, and earning money?

With all the controvery on some trusted writing sites banning Hubpages and other sites,
I would love to see in one hub with a list of the top 10-15 writing sites along with their pros and cons on writing, backlinking, and earning extra income.

This is a good question. I don't really have an answer to your question. I  didn't think sites were banning HubPages. However, I think that if you are looking to earn a good deal of money then you must select a good topic that is a) trending and b) people want to know about.

I'm going to looking into this banning aspect with hubpages and see what I can find out.

I agree about writing with good content Vrijdag. That is always going to be the critical point in any writing site. I am asking this question because of this recent hub:

I used Reddit only last month and got 500-600 in one day and didn't have the page banned. I do have problems with Stumble Upon, but I think I just don't know how to use it.

I didn't know about that either. I remember the Panda event and it seems my numbers are off, but I spend much of my time freelance writing so I don't know  the top site, but I would like to.

I was not around when the "Panda" thing took place, but again, I have heard some horror stories about it. It makes one a little nervous where to lay all your eggs (so-to-speak)

I didn't know Hupages was banned either. Although I've had the gut instinct that HP is getting a bad rap for crap (didn't mean to make that rhyme... sorry...) Because of that, I've been looking for other sites to make money on by writing. I haven't been all that successful. The only site that even comes close is Knoji and it's really difficult to make money there. You don't get paid for ad impressions, but you do get an activity bonus and can get paid for answering and asking questions. If you're active on the site, it's easier to make money. But if you're just concentrating on writing, HP is much easier.

I'm currently looking into other ways to make money writing online. Blogging looks like it might be somewhat lucrative. I think the main thing to remember is not to put all your eggs in one basket, even though I've been quite quilty of that as of late...
