In-bound marketing refers to call center operations where customers call in to the center rather than the tele-marketers calling out to customers in their homes.
With in-bound marketing the call center is either selling a product or service which callers call in and order or the call center is providing some type of support to customers who have either purchased the product or subscribes to a service (such as Internet, cable TV, auto roadside assistance, etc. In this case the call center operators either fill orders, arrange for returns , answer warranty questions, answer questions about how to use the product/service etc.
Despite the fact that operators handle in-bound service type calls, they do have the opportunity (and an incentive in the form of commission income) to up-sell by offering the customer an additional related product or service or, especially in the case of services like cable TV, offering to upgrade the customer's service to a higher level (which involves a higher price to the customer).
