Interview is a process of researching and analyzing a person's abilities. You can never get an ideal person to fit in any role, but the interview will help you pick a person who is close to match
the job profile.
I hate going to interviews - I feel scrutinized, which inhibits me from being the way I really am. I often don't get the job if it involves an interview.
If the employer tries me out - without interview - I always get the job.

I have only ever had one interview where I did not get the job... I guess it is all about being confident and knowing enough BS..
