Maybe. Basically I had a conversation with one of our old friends who my husband has worked with for years. He is wanting to revamp his company webpage and has had an offer.
Based on stuff I've just happened to hear in passing I have the impression that these sort of things are often huge ripoffs. I also have the impression that some of the regulars here do this sort of thing at perhaps a fairer rate and honester level. So I suggested he let me look into it for him, and possibly shop his job around.
I forgot to ask specifically what all he's looking for, but he gave me a copy of his offer, and here is what he's being sold.
The package is over $1300 and includes 1 time wordpress install and theme, SEO evaluation and front page content creation, 1 time video creation/syndication, 1 article creation and 5 backlinking accounts, local maps placement and optimization, and social media setup.
Optional services are available.
I think this is rather overpriced. It's basically setting up a few accounts, installing a free program, downloading a wp theme that the guy probably already owns (I didn't ask about his range of choices on that or anything), organizing the front page with seo in mind, providing 5 backlinks and backlinking accounts (listed at $40 each.) What do you think? Can you do it better for less?
Note that the offer reads "Note: These prices do not include any creation of content beyond the initial video." Such may be provided at additional charge.
Is this a fair offer? Got a better one? Let me know.
Just wanted to add that the guy should be fairly easy to work with. I used to years ago and he's easy to get along with. It's actually two guys, I'm not sure if both will be involved, and I know the second one less, but both are nice fellows.
I can confirm that this is grossly overpriced. I would suggest that he checks out oDesk, some great freelancers on there who would smash that price to bits.
Dependant on what they are making for the video. I would say f*ck the video and he could a much much better price.
ThisIsOli sometimes takes contracts to build Wordpress sites and knows what he is doing. Hit him up.
Not sure what he charges, and I know he is busy at the moment, but I suspect he can easily beat that price if he has room for the work.
As someone who has developed three websites and other blogs, it is easy to do what you mentioned. As the Wordpress template might be the most costliest thing, the rest is easy. I agree with Ryankett, it is a piece of cake, and anyone on oDesk will do it for half nothing just to get the job. Whatever! Interesting post.
It's sad, but the man charging $1300 probably gets work at that price. I built a quick gallery site for a photographer friend and he called me a 'genius', people don't realise how easy it is.
I even used a free theme, it took me 5 hours.
I would even offer to do it if I had the time, but I am far too busy.
I am wary of oDesk, because there are some hustlers on there, but you can get an entire custom coded website for the price that the OP is talking about!
I would much sooner take a punt on oDesk than get ripped off. Anyway, he should email ThisIsOli.
Hey thanks y'all. Oli, okay. Will contact him. Yeh it seemed way out there, and not really providing a whole lot. Any custom coding was an extra.
Thanks!

Hello Everyone, I’m primarily a writer, not a computer buff or web-site designer and in my other attempts at on-line writing I haven’t been trying to earn money, so I haven’t bothered about gaining traffic. I’m patient, I’ve read it takes a while to build up earnings, but from what...

What's the easiest way to know you're using strong keywords in your Hub and should these be bolded?I write strong clinical content but I'm literally an SEO dunce. How would you explain SEO to a 4 year old ( i.e. top 5 specific steps to follow in simple easy to follow language)?
