My Top Ten Most Popular Hubs

Updated on October 5, 2013

The Top Ten

Top Ten Hubs

I have been writing for four months now on Hub Pages and I thought it was important to analyze my traffic scores. In my analysis some results were entirely expected while others were complete surprises.

An interesting phenomenon has been revealed. What I thought were my most interesting and well written hubs had not received the highest traffic scores. So my audience perceives my hubs differently then I do and that requires further analysis as I must understand my audience well.

I should also probably let you know that My Top Ten hubs with the most traffic maybe misleading because they were written in the beginning of working on Hubpages and the amount of time they have been published is different on each hub therefore providing more opportunity for viewers. Articles which weren't popular immediately did gain traffic over time based on world events. So I maintain hope the articles I consider to be superior will gain a larger audience over time. Of course, I trust my audience to let me know.

But isn't that always the way for the writer? What the writer thinks is great the audience may not and therefore if the writer isn't commercial the work will never be reviewed. With this knowledge I know I will have to become more commercial in order to get the hubs I am most passionate about read. It is a balance and a dilemma that all of us face on Hub pages.

For those brave souls who have followed me from the beginning a recap and for those of you who have just started following here are the Top Ten most popular hubs I have written. For the purposes of this article I will provide the top seven and then let you know the ranking of the top three hubs.

Topics Which Get a Lot of Traffic.

There are three subjects which get a lot of traffic that I write about. They are Hurricanes, Politics and National Security. I was quite surprised to see the results of this analysis but I was quite happy the hub on helping children with Autism during Hurricanes received a lot of views. Actually I am happy for all the views but a bit surprised by what was viewed the most. Again time skews the results because these are older articles but it is good to review what has seen a lot of traffic.

The third most viewed hub is the only I wrote on Free Trade. It was a rather avant-garde hub when I wrote it and no one was writing the things I write at that time but the themes of this hub is now being echoed by the Republican Party.

I would not pay too much to the poll results as they aren't really reliable. Actually, I barely get any poll participants. Perhaps in time I will build trust with my readers and they will participate in my polls.

I never expected this hub to receive so much traffic but I guess it is indicative of the times we live in.

I though this was a good hub in that it showed parallels between American and Italian Politics in modern times and Silvio is almost as beloved in America as Potus. But I never thought this hub to be the most viewed and popular by double the traffic of any other hub. While Italy has had financial problems Silvio Berlusconi is so popular I have every faith it will all work out well. It also goes to show you there're no small players in world trade as the Italian Prime Minister is receiving more views than people running for the office of the president in the USA.

In Conclusion

What is popular is not my best work but without my audiences my work is irrelevant so I must find a happy medium. Perhaps I will provide a list of my favorite articles with you at some later date. I think it is very important to understand your audience before writing but it is difficult to figure out your audience before you begin on HubPages so analysis as you write is important so you drive traffic to your hubs.

      Hi MyFavoriteBedding,

I think that is the case with the hub USA Embracea Silvio Berlusconi. Silvio makes great copy but with Italy havng its credit down graded there are a lot more searches on Silvio who has had some choice things to say about the downgraded. I also agree that Palin wouldn't be in the top ten if she wasn't constantly putting herself out there as a presidental candidate and then never actually running.

It is good to know that readership buildings over time.

Thank you for reading, commenting and rating. Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

It is really interesting to think what you thought was your best work, others saw differently. It is a timing thing though, because I have had hubs up for a while, and some on my oldest hubs are now getting commented on and viewed, it just took a while. Great hub:)

      Hi Maralex,

It is good to meet you. I have a very wide interntional audience and while I have some readership from hubs pages I am on google, bing, yahoo and most search engines you could think of. I am also in countries that I have to look up on the map. It is fun learning ocuntry codes though.

I will try to write what I love and what inspires me but I am really bad at selling things especially since I am not trying. I am writing more to amuse, inspire, entertain or educate. I have only been on hubpages for 4 months and I am not completely oriented to how to monetize my site. I haven't even sold one product on amazon.

It is intersting though what I think is good others do not. I will have to try and figure out what is the difference. For every other professional writing venture I have always known my audience other professionals. But on hubpages it is different. You never know your audience and therefore never really know who you are writing for.

I am following you now as well. I look forward to reading your work in the future.

Thank you for reading, commenting and taking the time to provide feedback.

Do your stats tell you 'who' is reading your hubs? Is it still mostly hubpages or do you have a wider audience? I ask you this because I have found (in the short time I have been writing hubs) that my favourite hubs are not often my best received hubs. My audience is still hubpages.

I think 2 things must be important: 1. write what you love no matter what response you get and, 2. write well from a commercial point of view on what you like (not just love) and continue to tune those articles.

      Hi LABrashear,

I bet all the authors on hubpages go through this. But the data is skewed because it is over time.

I will probably publish my favorite ten hubs at a later time. I think it is really important to analyize what is popular and what is reaching audiences versuses what I prefer to write so I can tune my writing for my audience. It is clear I am not commerical enough.

I appreciate your support and suggestion and I will follow through.

Thank you for reading, commenting and providing feedback.

Hi JT. It's funny how the audience doesn't always agree with our personal preferences. I have one in particular that I was shocked at first at the reception. I think you should definitely post YOUR favorite top ten. Give your labors of love some exposure. It will give your followers a little more insight to who you are. Let everyone know what is most important to you.

      Hi Gypsy Willow,

It is so true what you the author thinks is great is not always what the audience thinks is great.

Thanks for reading commenting and providing feedback.

I am always surprised that although I write on a great variety of subjects that my hub on Arabian horses is by far and away my most popular hub.Interesting hub.

      Hello tsmog,

The difference between what I consider good and what is being viewed most is very interesting. Traffic scores change through time. I didn't get a lot of traffic to begin with but it picks up over time and the results are quite surprising.

Thanks for reading, commenting and providing feedback.

      HI dilipchandra12,

Thanks for reading, commenting and providing feedback. Although I should be clear these aren't necessarily my favorite hubs put the hubs that receive the most traffic.

Hello JT. Interesting isn't it. I don't have tons of traffic on any of my hubs, though I have some fair scores. I gave get a kick out of watching the scores change. Great hub
