Hey guys! I am very new to this site. I was wondering - My personal hubscore was 23 back when I wrote my first Hubpage. The next day I wrote another and noticed my score had dropped to 11. Today it's dropped to 2.
What am I doing wrong that dropping my score?
Thanks for the help!
Quite frankly, I think it is a glitch. If you did something really bad in your hubs that would affect your hubberscore so badly, your hubs would have been moderated and unpublished, and we wouldn't be able to see them.
As has already been mentioned, I don't think you have a problem with links, if you did, you would get a warning that your hub is "overly promotional", as has also been mentioned Hubber score doesn't really affect anything of real importance like Google ranking, traffic or earnings. It does matter if you want to link to your own stuff, though. Until your score is 75 your links will be no-follow.
One thing I noticed about your hub is I am not sure you are using images legally. Really only you can know for sure, but there are a couple of images that you've obtained from other sites, which might not belong to you. I know you've linked back to those sites, but that does not actually make it legal. You can only use others' images if they are public domain, creative commons (and often with those you need to say what the licence is), or you have obtained express permission from the image owner.
I don't know of course, you might have the permission, or the images might be public domain (or your own), but it doesn't look like it. If you use creative commons images you need to attribute them, which means putting in the photographer's name as well as giving a back link.
Pixabay.com has masses of public domain images, including some about computers.
I don't think this is what's bringing your score down, but it's good to start doing the right thing. Potentially using somebody's image incorrectly could result in legal action, that is very unlikely, but not impossible.
Hi, Computer Services - Welcome to HubPages!
Don't despair - it looks like several people are seeing plunging Hubber Scores. I looked at one of your hubs, and I am wondering if the 'raters' HP has installed are viewing it as commercial? There are strict rules against having a hub that's basically an online promotion for a business. I can't tell by just reading, and I didn't click on any links, so you'll have to be the judge of whether that could be a factor?
Also, we can't have more than two links to any one site - (again, I didn't click on anything). If any of your hyperlinks lead to the same URLs of other links, maybe look into that.
You could perhaps revise the lead of the one hub about computer tips (right now, it says "We are offering . . .") to look less like a business ad, in case anyone who reviewed it thought that was the purpose. After reading it, it appears to me you are saying "We" to mean that's what you're writing about, rather than "We" meaning a specific business.
Hope these ideas help a bit - and again, please stick with us! Something is strange with the Hubber score right now, and one solution is to ride it out. I look forward to reading your hubs!
I'm having the same thing happen to me. I wrote my first hub on the 7th of this month and had a score in the 20's. Since then it has been dropping and is now a zero. I'm not sure why. So, don't feel bad, you're not alone.
It helps to be actively involved in the community by taking the time to read other hubs and comment. I'm not sure if you already invest time doing that. I enjoy reading other hubs and find it is also a good learning experience. However, the score will continue to fluctuate. Welcome to HubPages!
That's no reason for them to get hubscores of 2 and 0. It must be a glitch. I had someone sign up just to harass me with a fake account, and it had a higher hubscore.
Never bothers about Hubber score and don't give it much value. It will not effect you hubs, page views or earnings and it will improve with the time.
When you are new, just concentrate on writing good quality Hubs and interacting with site's feature and HubPages community, your hubber score will start climbing automatically.
I agree, it looks like a glitch. Scores shouldn't drop that low from non-spammer accounts.
These scores don't really mean much of anything by way of earnings. If people write a great hub they get a 49 for it. Yet if they write some more rhetoric about Hub Pages, that we have read 1000 times already, they get a hub score of 80 right of the bat.
There is so much in the way of changes, BS on HP, the only concern is the EARNINGS which stink too.
I did 2 hubs and my score dropped to zero and it stayed like that for a while
However, over past week it has been climbing a little. Just give it time.
One problem you may have is links. You have several links to commercial sites on each of your 2 hubs and Hubpages only allows a maximum of 2 promotional links.
Two links to the same domain--and he is within that limit. His linking looks compliant to me.
Thanks, It's all about providing tools to the user, so they aren't just links to be links for no reason or for commercial purposes (each of the links sends you to a free service).
Thanks for the advice everyone. I appreciate it. I wasn't sure if that affected my hub pages or not, but I was taking it too personal and saw it as a reflection of myself.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hi Computer Services,
I read one of your hubs on speeding up the computer and how it works and I found it interesting. I am not certain how the hubber score works, but since the time I have joined my hubber score has been 68 and higher with currently being at 88.
I cannot really place the reason for the score dropping so drastically but you may want to check out some of the following points:
1. SEO optimization. There has been a lot written about it over here, so you can go through an appropriate hub on that.
2. Topic choice through Google Keyword search.
3. Being active in the community - Honestly I do not know what this means because I am a newbie too.. Just repeating what everyone else says :-)
4. Share you articles on your social network or professional network.. The articles appear quite professional and when the views increase, I presume the score increases too. Even, if it doesn't don't bother, your hubs are great irrespective of that.
Hope it helps.
Thanks and warm regards,
Savio.
I noticed when my traffic goes up my hub score goes up, Was sitting at 80, I started hub hopping, and commenting for two days and now it's 86. Haven't written a new hub for many months. It really isn't worth paying one iota of attention to. I have posted hubs that were scoring in the high 90s for weeks - now range in the 80's. I guess eventually traffic slacks off and affects the rating? - I don't know and frankly don't care - I know what is good and what is not. If you want an hour or so of hilarious fun though check this out for some weekend entertainment: <link snipped>
PS You can increase your traffic by liking your pages on Stumbleupon. I Just checked your profile and your hubscore was "0" ? Definitely some glitch - I'd email team@hubpages.com and ask about it.
Aside from my first week or so here, my Hubscore's never dropped below 85. Just keep publishing and editing Hubs.
Just one other thing, your hub has too many links, I am not certain if that is the killer... You may want to try new hubs minus the links and check the result...
Regards,
Savio.
Thanks Savio! It's not the actual page's score that has me worried, it's doing well, it's my personal score. It dropped from 23 to 0 in less than three days and I have no idea why.
Just checked that hub and it doesn't have too many links. There are only a maximum of two to any one domain (which is okay) and in general the links are to free stuff anyway. I suspect you may have misunderstood how the 'amount and type of links allowed' is calculated by HP.
http://hubpages.com/faq/#overly_promotional
That's why I didn't even address that comment because for one I don't want to start an argument, and Savio is a nice fella
Still have no idea why my personal score is a zero, though.
I'm sure Savio is a lovely fellow, I just thought it might also benefit him to understand how the maximum amount of links is worked out, plus it helps to stop wrong information being spread from person to person within the site
Oh yes. You have all been very helpful.
Looks like a glitch to me, too. I'm brand new at HP, but my husband's not, and he agrees. My score has gone down from a start of 30 to 7, and still dropping. The more I do, the more it drops.
I did just figure out that they'd sent me an email asking me to verify my email address. I hadn't done that. We'll see if that helps.
Hm. No, that probably won't make any difference, either. You all had verified yours or you wouldn't have been able to post here, and yours are dropping, too....
I am just guessing here, but I would think part of the problem is that you are writing on a saturated topic. Simply writing more hubs will help establish yourself and your writing. Generally, it is recommended that when you provide a link, you use words and not the webpage address to identify what you are recommending.
There are some typos in your profile (computer is spelled wrong) and the summary of your hub (offing instead of offering) but those seem minor enough.
It may also be a new feature to keep new users low enough to not show up in Google until their work has been vetted. Your Hubber score has to be a certain score (45?) before your hubs will show up on Google.
I also noticed the images that aalite mentioned. There are plenty of public domain images available that you do not need to steal copyrighted images. You can also show your authority by providing your own images. Even though you aren't worried about the hub's score, the hub's score is a big factor in your Hubber score. Fix the hubs, your Hubber score also goes up.
well I dont understand these hubscores. I do not think it really matters does it?
I am new to this site and enjoy reading and writing and besides that , I really dont think I care about the hub scores. Its nice when you receive comments and people read and enjoy your hub, however the scores makes no difference I would say anyway
Just my opinion
Have a good one
Thanks Rayne I was just curious as to why my hubs were in good standing, but my personal score was dropping like a rock. I wasn't sure if it was just me or something I had done. I'd have to have broken a rule and not known about it!
Ok however can you explain to me why some people are earning few dollars and what it means to drop your score.
thank you
Laurie
I'm so new to this site that I'm still learning how to sign up to make money, so I'm not qualified to answer any questions.
Sorry!
The same thing happened to me. In the questions and answers it said to not be so concerned with it. My score came back up after a couple of days. Good Luck.
your sevens are a sign of the bible. is that why you picked that user name or you just decided it out of no where. Just curious
Actually the day I was born was on a 7th and the year 77. I am very spiritual but that is not the reason.
Clearly whoever thought that this low score thing is a cool way of treating real people and that it's effect can be totally mitigated by advising everyone to not let it bother them.... is not only completely ignorant of adult human behavior, but also doesn't understand how to communicate with intelligent grown ups!
Unbelievable!
If it is a bug... then fix it and give the site some credibility!
If it is a management technique for classifying wheat from chaff.... then please stop treating grown up people from different cultures so contemptuously!
For what it is 'worth' I am embarrassed for anyone who is exposed to this style of numerical introduction... I am embarrassed as I genuinely feel that whoever considers it appropriate to 'humiliate' people this way, has absolutely no idea how to appreciate the 'non geek' needs and attributes of others!
Welcome from a real person anyway... there are still a few of us here who objectively call a spade a spade!
Thank you for your insight and your humanity!
Welcome to Hubpages, Computer Services! There must be a glitch in the system, or Hubpages had made some changes in the system. A few months ago, new hubbers who had only been here a few weeks.(six weeks to be exact!) could already get a perfect 100 hubberscore. But now it seems, HP had gone to the extreme the other way. I'm sure an HP staff will drop by and say "Don't worry about it."
I hope you get the answer you're looking for, and I wish you all the best here on Hubpages. Cheers!
Some weird is going on with hubscores. This is not the only user affected.
Hi fellow new person I only joined 11 days ago and my score done exactly the same as yours and dropped to zero. Thankfully after bottoming out there for a while it did start to rise and seems to be ok now. So welcome and don't worry, I am sure it will be on its way up soon. Anna
When i first started i had a score in the late 20s range, then it just went downhill even though for the next few days i was publishing 1 hub per day. Ultimately it reached 0. I read on a few pages to simply ignore my hubberscore so i have been ignoring it. Today after staying at 0 for around 2 days my hubberscore rose to 5. i have no idea how or why...

For a good number of weeks my hubber score has hovered around the 100 mark. Two days ago it started falling, and as I write this, it is down to 89! If this keeps up, it will be 0 in a week! No rhyme or reason to it, but it leaves me wondering why this is happening. I know...

Hello guys!I just started HubPages less than a month ago so I'm fairly new and might not understand the way HubScore works like you do.I have published 5 hubs and I published my 5th hub yesterday. My fifth hub is called "Everything You Wanted to Know About Whole Grains", by the way. I...

I have gone through everything each and every bit of detail on hubpages regarding hubber score, even deleted 8 least performing hubs and checked malicious links, broken links, checked any hubs for more than 2 links to one domain, and checked copied hubs section, filed DMCA complaints, then also my...

Its odd. Only 3 days ago, my hubscore was 86. Now look at it! How can this score change so radically, so quickly? I have done lots of tweaking on my hubs - making tags better etc. My traffic has increased quite a lot, so why has my score dropped so radically? Anyone...

I'd like to suggest we get rid of Hubber Score - and perhaps even Hub Scores. They:- are constantly misunderstood;- cause a lot of upset and grief in the forums; and- encourage newbie Hubbers to direct their efforts in entirely wrong directionsFor instance, I've known newbie Hubbers stop...
